Thanks for all the positive responses, folks.
I have to admit they turned out better than I expected. I used alot of thin washes and filters, (more than I typically do) and some light dry brushing. These figs have a lot of very fine scales and feathering that would be easy to lose with a heavy handed paint job. I spent a lot of time contemplating color schemes - that's one of my weaknesses. I usually just grab random colors for clothing and equipment, but for these guys I wanted the schemes to "make sense" so to speak. Did a lot of googlin' for inspiration.
Basing was fun to do, part of my ~400 figure backlog that I worked through over this past holiday season.
Figures are all old Ral Partha (now Iron Wind Metals), purchased at several
Historicons from huge plastic bins filled with loose figs, and paid for by the ounce. I haven't been to the con in a couple years so don't know if the vendor is still doing that. Bought a bunch of these plus african animals and dungeon bits and bobs from the bins as well.
And yep, my blog needs some updates...
