New Aeronef Fleet - The Knights of St John, Malta in 1898
« on: 24 April 2009, 08:32:23 PM »
The latest up-load to my Blog is an article on scratch-building a group of six Aeronefs in 1/600th scale.

Based on a What-if Scenario that the Holy League and Ottoman Empires were still fighting one another for control of the Eastern Med.

Check it out at;

Nice work.

Beaten to it again - I'd started the knights + Vatican a couple of years ago, and finished one of the knights' nefs and an Ottoman ship... but never had time to go further.
Yours are just GRAND :) Stunning work :)

It was your colour scheme that inspired mine.

That is fantastic! The construction is inspiring and the subject matter is awesome. I had a chance to briefly visit Malta a few years ago - a truly magical place. What if the Knights of St. John survived Napoleon....? Hmmm. 28mm may have to follow....

Awwww - I hadn't noticed that!  Blush! Thank you! I have to say your interpretation of the scheme is FAR better than mine though :)
If you want a spot of variety, the galley hulls were painted red or black, so you could have a black-hulled squadron as well.

Lovely ships, nice one.  :)

Like the converted ogre on the same page as well, that's a really neat job.

Very true, on both counts!

Those 'Nefs are so good I initially thought they were new commercial ones from Brigade, before I read the blurb  :o :-*

The Ogre is a lovely model. I have the complete Flintloque boxed set somewhere, but sadly never got into it. Oh well, maybe I could put it up for sale on EvilBay :(

These are great ships, well done. I love scratchbuilding nefs too but these are better than mine! Love to see the fleets expanded and new ships introduced. Have you thought of getting these cast?

I have not thought about getting these cast.  I feel a bit embassassed, as the designs are not original, but (not exactly) copies of the Brigade miniatures which are cast in 1/1200th scale.

I get allong fine with the people at Brigade and therefore would not want to step on their toes!
