VSF Knights of Malta
« on: October 20, 2010, 09:37:36 AM »
The Victorian period certainly had it's fads and for a short time there was a resurgence of dueling (hobby/honour, unlikely to the death), but doing so while wearing full plate and swinging bastard swords... I want to do the VSF version!

These will be Knights of Malta and will form the bodyguard for a couple of Papal characters I'm doing. I'd like to create something along the lines of this guy from Foundry (never released as far as I can tell).

This image of the Deus Sister shows the pistons on the legs and a different power pack.

The powerpacks/boilers and pistons aren't a problem. Weaponry will probably be sabres and pistols. I'm at a bit of a loss over bodies though. I thought of GW knights but the armoured legs I could find have big puffy trousers. The Perry WotR plastics would only give me about 2 pairs of useable legs per box (although it's a possible). I want about 20 of these guys...

Any suggestions?
So many projects..... so little time.......

The Perry's also do metal men-at-arms in full plate, although they have polearms rather than swords:

Only two packs though. Still, if you're planning on chopping them up anyway....

The only other thing I could think of was a similar pack from Old Glory, but then you have the usual casting and bizarre anatomy issues with them. Again though, if they are for conversions, they might be worth a look:

Don't know of a better alternative in plastic, sorry.

Indeed Perry and Foundry immediately jump to mind.

Perhaps the Warmachine Cygnar dudes could also work:

Indeed but the Kevin Dallimore site is the only place I've ever seen it and my contacts with foundry/ex-foundry types came up blank. Most of them didn't know it existed...

Not been able to find anything useful on the Foundry site but I could have been looking in the wrong places. The Cygnar storm knights etc were actually the first thing I looked at but they don't really fit and I just can't handle huge shoulder pads for this set up :)

Jollybob - Cheers, hadn't noticed that first pack, I might be able to work with that. The only reason I'd been looking at plastics is it'd be easier to do the unarmoured sleeves with epaulettes, or at least the right arm anyway. The left is a little more difficult.

De nada.  :)

There's also Black Tree (with all the concommittant delivery problrems that entails):

Those are Hundred Years War rather than War of the Roses though, so the armour is different. If the style suits though, again the Perry's probably have some that might actually get to you this decade.  ;)

These ones, in fact:

Ok, looks like I'm bored at work today....  lol

I just had a thought about these lads too:

Ion Age Retained Knights from Alternative Armies. A little rough and ready, maybe, but might be a good basis for conversions as they look a little steam-punky already.

Testudo Minatures. C15th European knights.

Lots of the foot figures have no photos though... ::)  The mounted knights are lovely ;D

Look at Front Rank's WotR. They are bigger than Perry's and have great detail. None of them have bare heads though (some of Mirliton's fantasy humans do). I was looking for something similar but then I decided that 28mm knights were too small so I got some Steamboy power armors lol

I was about to post these guys but then scrolled down, I think they make very good VSF candidates and have a hankering after them myself :D

The Steamboy armour is perhaps a tad large  ;D

Front Rank has some promise though, this pose would be quite easy to cut down to just it's body and legs, although why anyone would choose it normally.....

The Iron Age figure doesn't work for me but it was a good suggestion.

The Testudo figures could be good, but without seeing pics I 'ain't buying.

A mechanical falcon probably wouldn't be that hard  ;)
