Long gunners don't have enough armour. I considerd the assorted storm knight types but they have an awful lot of quilting etc and are possibly a bit big.

Personally I was looking at the Precursor Knights.  You'd have to replace the mace with a sword (or maybe not because the mace is very kewl) and their heads seem in keeping with what you want and also can be easily replaced.  The shield hand would be where I put the pistol.

But as you say, most likely the major obstacle with Warmachine is that the figures are almost certainly very large, though I don't know that for sure.  I've always liked the Warmachine minis but could never figure out what to do with them...

Nothing to add old chap but a cracking idea for a project! It's a good job I've spent all my florins on tripods or I'd be tempted.

I have to agree. I recently read a book about the Knights of Malta and the Turkish Seige and I think that this a perfect idea for a VSF army. I look forward to seeing what you come up with.
