Ogrob's medievals for SAGA. V&V and Victrix muslim heavy cav compared 21/9

Hey guys, time to bring this topic back from the dead.

It took me ages to get WGAs Irish plastic because a package was lost. Once I contacted them about it they sent me a new one pronto and a couple of weeks ago I started working on them. I've incorporated a bunch of Victrix viking, saxon and gaul parts and even a few Perry zulu arms. The WGA models have a lot of moulded on left arms which limits posing but you can cut them of and grab some spare left arms from Victrix to make new poses.






These will make 24 Javelin armed warriors or levy for SAGA, functional for both Irish and Norse Gael factions.

I think it's a Victrix saxon.

Thank you! I'd say that they are a step above Gripping Beast, with better sculpts and better proportions. Still a good bit behind Victrix however, both in quality and sprue content. Some wonky poses with the integral left arms, and some limited options because bodies can only take bare arms and they are very limited in number. No clever hand swap solutions without cutting things yourself. Biggest issue for me is a lack of slings, there is only one sling per sprue of six bodies.

Ever had one of those projects that sit half-finished on your desk for ever and ever? Well, this was one of those. These guys have been half painted since a week or so after I posted the kitbashes. And then I just never finished them... until the other day. Nice to have that check of the to do list.

Added a few more conversions that I never photographed in the plastic.

A norse-gael warlord with dane axe:


Three irish warriors with dane axes (kitbashed WA irish with Victrix axes) and a hearthguard with dane axe:


The irishmen with javelins were divided into four groups of six, colour coded in the dark age irish scheme of yellow, grey, black and white. The white is really a tan and the black a dark gray, but I figure that's what natural dyes would look like.

One more little update on here. I've bought the Baron's War game from Footsore, and might be making some minis for that (but we probably do 100 year war instead, still like the look of the rules for that). As I was buying the book I took the opportunity to order some more Matt Bickley sculpts, some of the lovely late Saxons he has done for Footsore.
