Shame your experience with V&V was sub-par.  I have a couple of their figures, and while I did have to add a brass pole for the banner man, the sculps were excellent, and I've often considered future purchases from them.

Resin is a bit hit and miss though.  In general I am not a huge fan, but you can work with it.

That said, your warband is excellent.

That's a handsome warband.

I had hoped to use Gall Gaedhil with my Irish at Adepticon in March, but it looks like mercs will be disallowed.  :(

I've never used the Norse Gael board.  How is it?

It's fairly one sided, with no defensive abilities at all. They do have some neat tricks, like shunting fatigue over to levy, allowing you some solid threat range on your fighting units.

Maniac: The sculpts are great indeed! I was mostly frustrated with the assembly process, but with the benefit of some time, I may consider getting more of their minis as they are very good looking.

Glad to see this thread back! Looks like you had a good time. Love that warband.

Still haven't figured out how to take group photos that don't suck, but what can you do? The army is painted, and I've played one game with them.

This is _years_ old, but I love the basing style here. It has a very lush, wet look I associate with Dark Ages. What's the forumula?

Oof, yeah, it has been a minute since I did anything in that style. I think it is a base of Scale75 Black Forest Green followed by drybrushes of S75 Sherwood Green and either S75 Autumn green or possibly P3 Thrall Flesh. The tufts are either Army Painted or Gamer's Grass, I just used any lush green tufts I had lying around, trying to get some variation of greens.

I might need to grab one of those oathsworn barbarians...with the shield swap she looks like she'd work well as a character for one of my projects.

Thanks for trying to pull this up out of the memory haze. One other question...are the base rings Scale75 Black Forest Green or are they simply black? It's hard for me to tell.

Just plain black there. I usually do my edges black, unless the minis are going in a movement tray.

Just a small update to this thread. Earlier this winter I forgot how much I disliked assembling V&V miniatures and ordered a few more sets through Stronghold Terrain.

I've gotten around to painting up two sets of Irish Slingers. Sculpts are nice as usual with V&V, but the I found the faces a bit plain. Paintjobs are fairly quick and dirty, but should do just fine on the table.

Small update here as well today. Hoping to do some more Viking age stuff alongside my Rohan project this summer, including fleshing out some of the mercenary options from Saga Age of vikings. To that end I have put together this small unit of Shieldmaidens. Models are Stronghold terrain with a Hasslefree leader.

I have those miniatures but they are cast in resin by Brother Vinni.

Are they licensed copies?

@DavidJ, no idea but I imagine so.

Heres how they turned out anyway. Not my best photography, might try to get a better shot at some point.

I have around 30 Brother Vinni's miniatures (I doubled up on one order) and some more in the post.  They are very well sculpted and, being resin, are quite easy to convert or improve with Victrix leftovers.

Mine don't look quite as good as yours ... but I'm happy with them  :)

As MaleGriffin said, your colour choices are great.

The Hasslefree figure turned out very well, that's one I don't have!
