If anyone followed my Game of Thrones project, I had a period where I got really into civilian figures for the setting. Most of the Claymore figures going into this project have been taken from that old project, but I also happened upon some 1st Corps Camp Follower figures and bits that had been sat unpainted since doing the original lot of civilians. I based them up on 40mm rounds with the idea of using them as objectives for SAGA.

Here's how they've turned out:

I went all in on Footsore's Welsh kickstarter a while back, and ended up with just about 6 pts of viking age welsh for SAGA, plus an assortment of rougghly high medieval figures. Some have found their home in my Sludge Free People force, and the last few have been in a box for quite a while. I was not terribly impressed with the quality of Footsore metal figures, so I am not planning on buying any more. As I was looking through the box of kickstarter leftovers I happened upon these four, who Footsore label "poor knights". I figured they could serve in a pinch as welsh adventurers/mercenaries in my 14th century force, even though their equipment is a bit outdated.

What was the issue with Footsore? I love their Dark Age sculpts but stopped buying in 2022 after repeated issues with casting quality. The same issue? Or not so keen on the Welsh sculpts?

I dislike the metal they use, I believe with quite a high lead content, and the casting quality it gives. The sculpts themselves are excellent.

And I managed to finish a couple more figures with hours to spare before travelling for New Years. After struggling with my first lot of 100 year war soldiers, I decided to paint the next lot in retinues instead of SAGA units, so a couple figures from each troop type, all in the same colour scheme. First retinue out are in my commanders scheme of red and yellow quartered.



This lot adds a second mounted Warlord figure, the lovely Camino de Santiago special figure from Stronghold Terrain. Sculpted by the fellow behind Reconquer Designs. An older, pious noble. He has walked the path of Saint James, and displays the cross to show his virtue.

Four pavisiers, two perry, one claymore, one antediluvian scot who got a surgical transplant of some plastic Perry arms:


And then some Perry plastics, three mounted Warriors (in SAGA terms, not sure what the historical designation would be for these)


And three levy crossbowmen. I used some bodies from the English archers to reduce the amount of armour on these:

Another small viking age (or earlier) Irish interlude. Built some Irish characters in older style armour using Victrix late romans. The warlord on chariot is an option in the Scotti variant list from Age of Invasions, so migration rather than viking period.
