Well, if they can't beat the Russians, who can?

It still boggles my mind the the French and the Germans formed a joint unit.  The French and the Germans.  Seriously?  What has the world come to?  Next thing you know, there'll be cats and dogs, living together... :o

Regardless, they do look good I must say...

They also have a joint German Cezch and German Dutch unit as well.

As others have said, very well put together scenery.

They are local to us here in south Germany, so we often see off duty soldiers with their insignia patches: it's quite diestinctive.

I'm less surprised at a French-German legion than a Dutch-German legion to be honest. Personally I feel that when we get a Polish-German legion that'd be scary, bearing in mind how the Poles fight. Combine that with German effecisice and the result will be terrifying.

Retirement & Wargaming Ambitions
After months of preparation, I officially retired from work yesterday. It’s been a long time coming, and while wrapping up my professional life took focus and energy, I’m now ready to fully embrace the next chapter.

One of my biggest goals moving forward is to dedicate more time to wargaming—not just designing immersive scenarios and refining maps, but also launching and running a YouTube channel to share my passion with a wider audience.

Progress has been slow on my latest battle report, but with retirement now behind me, I’m excited to dive deeper into storytelling, scenario building, and tactical gameplay. The Cold War is heating up in my fictional 1999 campaign, and there’s much more to come

Battle Report: Border Clash at Dusk

Location: Latvian Border Sector 7

Date: Winter, 1999
The Russian vanguard surges across the Latvian frontier, their advance swift and calculated. Within moments, they encounter fierce resistance from the Latvian Border Guards, who open fire from entrenched positions along the snow-dusted ridgeline.

Under pressure, Russian forces deploy a mortar section, unleashing indirect fire onto key defensive emplacements. Explosions echo across the valley as the battle intensifies.

Despite being outgunned and outnumbered, the brave Latvian defenders hold their ground. In a pivotal moment, they manage to halt the advance of a BMP-3, its tracks frozen in place by a well-placed anti-armor strike.

The clash marks the opening salvo of a wider conflict—one that threatens to engulf the Baltic states in a new era of shadow warfare.

Russian air support arrives on station, sweeping low over the treetops and unleashing precision strikes on Latvian defensive positions. The roar of jet engines and the thud of guided munitions signal a shift in momentum, as infantry units press forward under the cover of aerial firepower.

Suddenly, a deep rumble echoes across the frostbitten highway. Latvian defenders brace for impact—then blink in disbelief. Emerging from the mist is a Russian Turtle Tank, its bizarre silhouette clanking steadily down the road. The vehicle’s outer shell resembles a reinforced bunker on tracks, but inside lurks a T-72B, its cannon peeking from a retractable hatch like a predator beneath armor.

The Latvians scramble to reposition, unsure whether to laugh or run. The battlefield has just taken a surreal turn.

The Franco-German Brigade, part of NATO’s Rapid Response Force, roars onto the battlefield in a column of sleek reconnaissance vehicles. Within minutes, they secure elevated terrain and establish forward fire positions, unleashing punishing volleys on advancing Russian infantry.

But the Russians are prepared.

A platoon of T-80 and T-90 main battle tanks rolls into view, their engines growling through the snow-laced forest roads. With coordinated precision, they fan out to support the beleaguered ground troops, their heavy cannons trained on NATO’s forward line.

The battlefield is now a crucible of fire and steel—where maneuver, timing, and grit will decide who holds the line.

With tensions escalating across the Baltic frontier, the United States remained cautious. Despite mounting pressure from NATO allies, American command hesitated to deploy air assets from Lielvarde Air Base, a strategic installation nestled just 7 kilometers north of the town and southeast of Riga.

The US President, wary of committing airpower without verified intelligence, authorized a covert insertion. US Army Rangers, supported by CIA field operatives, were dispatched under cover of night to establish forward reconnaissance and confirm Russian force dispositions.

Their mission:

- Secure visual confirmation of enemy armor movements
- Identify SAM placements and electronic warfare threats
- Relay coordinates for potential precision strikes

Only after boots were on the ground and encrypted feeds confirmed hostile intent did the order come down: **“Release the birds.”**

The skies above Latvia would soon thunder with the roar of American jets and helicopter gunships.
