[INDIA] Compatibilty Redoubt / Other ranges !?
« on: May 03, 2021, 10:24:11 AM »
Hi all

Could you tell me if the "India" range from Redoubt Miniatures would be compatible in size with "India" ranges such as those from Indus Miniatures, Mutineer Miniatures etc ...

Indeed, I read that the redoubt tended rather towards the 32mm than towards the 28mm

Could you light up my lantern !?

They are Big chaps.
Wanting to add a Rocket team to my Indian Mutiny stuff,
and in the absence of any alternatives, I plumped for
Redoubt. They are nice, but do not fit in with anything else
in my 'stock'. To me it isn't an insurmountable problem, after
all they (the rocket team) are on their own base & (being
sensible) no other unit goes anywhere near them (friend or foe).
A did end up with 'spare' officer figure who was SO BIG (could
be incorporated into a 40mm unit)that the only use I could put
him to was as a statue!

The Redoubt figures are certainly larger than most in the 28mm world.

I picked up a few at a Flea Market table for a good price. When I got them home, I placed them next to the Foundry Indian Mutiny figures and was put out at the scale difference.  Not being one to let a good bargain be wasted, I evened out the problem of scale by mounting the Foundry figures on thicker bases and the Redoubt figures on thinner metal bases.

Here is a unit of Indian "rabble".  I can ignore the differences fairly well since they make for a good mob.

I asked Redoubt many years ago about why this range of figures were sculpted as 32mm+ size. The explanation I got was that the range started life as a commission for a customer and that was the size required. Its a shame as there are a lot of nice figures in the range.

Here is a cavalry comparison picture:

I had heard that about Redoubt's Three Musketeers range - that it started out as a commissioned range, and that the customer wanted figures which would match in with existing figures he owned.

I was warned that this was an old Post, but I felt compelled to reply. ("It's an old code, but it might work)
I didn't know that the reason the Redoubt India Range was made to for a customer.  I have been able to acquire Armies of the Figures for my India Games. I really like the figures; they are of a heft and stature that I enjoy gaming with. I am always looking for more.  That said, I am curious, what other ranges/figures are there that are in this mighty scale?  I have searched far and wide for miniatures that would be compatible with this scale without luck. The only figures that have come close were the Alternative Armies Elves. (Fantasy Napoleonic French) and some of the Reaper Pirates. Are there any others? Thank you

Leapsnbounds, you could try AW miniatures. They are on the biggish side. I don't have any of the India range but I do have some of the Zulu War Brits.
Also the Ironclad Miniatures Pathans are a good big size. Although for a later period (NW Frontier) I don't think the clothing changed that much.
I am going to build a wargames army, a big beautiful wargames army, and Mexico is going to pay for it.
