Dune Sardaukar miniatures help
« on: 10 September 2009, 10:50:19 PM »
Hi all, long time Lurker, second-time Poster. A short while back I saw someone's beautifully painted Sardaukar figures, as well as their conversions for the Fremen and the Dune worms. Alas, I did not bookmark the location! I've exhausted my google-fu, and even searched back through my web browser's history with no luck. It may not necessarily have been on LAF either.

Does anyone out there in the Great InterWebsTubes have a link to share? Surely something as amazing as this person's work will be known to more than just myself.

Thanks!

A CANADIAN local hobby store with a small selection of historical wargames miniatures (mainly from Warlords). They also have a great selection of paint and hobby accessories from Vallejo, Army painter, AK Interactive, Green Stuff World and more.; https://tistaminis.com/

Oh wow, those are excellent. I would have gone a different way though. But I do like what he did.

Although the sandworms are great, they need to be BIGGER

It's nice paint and conversion work, no doubt.

But I thought the Fremen kept their faces and heads covered to retain moisture?  A little artistic license there, I guess.

(At least, that's how I remember it, but it's been a long time since I read Dune).

Maybe using plastic water-mains pipes or 2L coke bottles chopped and re-shaped as a basis?  ;)

Love the theme, love the fremen, totally dislike the Sardaukar. They just don't look like the supersoldiers in heavy armor. They look too much like light infantry to me. I think some Starship Troopers Infantry models will be much better as Sardaukar. Okay, the army won't be tournament legal anymore. Storm Troopers are also a viable option then.

I think he's going from the David Lynch movie version, more than the book.

Yes, I think so. Not my vision of either the Fremen or the dreaded sardaukar - I always saw more flowing robes in my mind's eye.
But the leathery biker gear is very David Lynch, whilst the Sardaukar as envisaged here are just very, erm.. Games Workshop looking.
GW stylee Space Marine-alikes are definitely not my idea of Sardaukar.
But then it's an individual imagination thing...

Brilliant conversion and painting work though. No doubt about that.

I'm waiting for the happy day when Peter Jackson gives Dune the epic trilogy treatment he gave LOTR.
Now that would be a vision of Frank Herbert's universe worth seeing...
Perhaps I'll write to him and suggest it  ;)

Yes, I'd always thought of the Fremen as a cross between Jedi and Arabs, in terms of their dress. They would keep their still-suits covered to reduce vapour loss and they should have goggles, masks and tubes up their noses to retain moisture lost through respiration. I see the Sardaukar more like fully armoured SS troops, actually not dissimilar to the "Halo" troops mentioned elsewhere in our Future Wars forum. Well, I did read Dune in the late 70's  ::)

The GW influence in the pics is probably because DakkaDakka is a GW "fanboy" site and of course, they are not allowed to use other figures  ;)

Wow! PJ doing Dune  :o  Wouldn't that be something to see!  If you do write and he takes up your suggestion, I'll be your slave for life  lol
