Help to find a 28mm Roman figure
« on: 07 July 2021, 06:35:21 PM »
Our son drew this picture of me as a Roman General and I would like 2 similar figures to paint up - one  for him and one for me.  On foot or mounted or both it matters not.

Any suggestions?

Nice drawing!

The Wargames Foundry Perry Imperial Roman figures are old but steady.
They paint up well and have a number of poses that may fit your needs, although mustachios are not common!

If you want a large scale Impressive Roman action General then this Relic figure is perfectly OTT:

The Victrix plastic set has a bunch of rather animated mounted Roman Officers also, but no foot figures to match. Also they come as a set of many Generals, Legates, and mounted Centurions:

The wreath may be harder to find on a General figure.
The Copplestone ones (on the right) are both mounted and dismounted, if one can find them.

Aventine has some EIR command figures that may work, but the best ones have beards.

Plenty there to think about.  The Foundry ones look useful with both mounted and foot though a bit small by modern standards - but then so am I!

I'll just give them thicker bases.  Unless there are others not found yet.

not sure if they're still around, but I remember there was a company you could send pics of yourself for them to scan in and you could get scale copies of your head for minis with some modifications available to either shift species or additions like the wreath...I remember Beasts of War had ordered a few to show off and one person I used to game with had several done but he was military and was transferred a few years ago

Intriguing idea.  I think I feel a Google Day coming on tomorrow.

Both Aventine and A&A miniatures have some Roman command packs that may contain the sort of figures you are looking for.

Thanks for the most generous offer.  I will take you up on it.  Still searching but Foundry and Warlord seem to fit best with my old 25mm and early 28mm Romans.

The Foundry Roma EIR figures are sculpted by the Perry twins and beautifully done.

I put a penny under mine when I base them.

Your command figures could be based on “high ground” like some rocks to just make them stand out.

Use some greenstuff to add a mustache and some hair, and voila.

Thanks, I have ordered a selection of figures based on all these recommendations.  The warlord Caesarian Roman Officers look like best fit though the Relic one would be good if available easily in UK.

Thanks everyone.

You could do a head swap on the centurion EIR57 my guess is the shield is separate.
