Hello.
I finally got my arse in gear and played two campaign turns of Five Parsecs.
Here's my starting crew.
Left to Right:
Wilmorton, A disaffected hacker, hailing from a human colony on some alien backwater out in the middle of nowhere. She is looking for adventure.
Chester, a Duros, travelling with Wilmorton. He was born into a long line of bureaucrats on the same backwater, but had instead become a scientist, much to his family's disapproval. He's hooked up with the crew to get out from under his family's boot.
Rossi, brought up in a military academy, from a 6 generation tradition, she's one of the few in her family not to enlist. Rossi's in it for the money. She carries her great grandfather's duelling pistol as a reminder of her family's tradition.
Behind her is Jal Fraezi, raised on the Unity frontiers world of Rodger's Landing, she's trying to get enough credits together to publish her first collection of fringe world beat poetry.
Next is Parfitt, who leads the crew. She comes from the farm world of Wee Tabix, Parfitt is a roving special agent, secretly under contract to the agricultural megacorp that runs her world, SOYCO, she is a deniable asset. She is tasked with accumulating dirt on the corp's arch political/comercial rival, the Corporate Union for New Technologies, but would like to be doing something that paid better and offered some renown.
Finally comes Rogan Josh, raised on the comfortable but unremarkable Unity core world, Emefai, Rogan is a scientist in search of something that'll bring him the recognition he thinks he deserves. He won't say quite what it is, but he knows it's out there somewhere. (Note that in the second encounter, Rogan's mini was swapped out as he picked up a damaged rattle gun in a trade which Chester was able to repair.)
Behind them is the 'Mary Sue', a ship that is remarkable for its age. As far as records show, the ship was originally an atmospheric craft, refitted some time over the last century. Unfortunately, it's plagued by unreliable jump drives. Still it's cheap, the crew have just about paid it off.
Campaign turn one.
The crew was tasked with a bit of exterminating. Not really their line of work, but they needed the credits.
Parfits shady contact Sylus Grink had recently bought an ‘abandoned’ logistics facility on the cheap, on a nearby moon. On the cheap as the station was overrun with a giant arachnid infestation.
The crew shipped out to the moon, only to discover that it was in permanent shadow, reducing visibility considerably. This complicated the mission considerably, and explained why they’d been given the job.
Cursing Grink for not having given them all the details, the crew deployed and through luck were able to eliminate the infestation before being overrun.

Campaign turn two
On their return, the crew got paid and scored a couple of old worn out weapons in a trade, a power claw which remained damaged, and a rattle gun that Chester was able to fix up. They also picked up another suit of combat armor, so Rogan bagged the Rattle gun and the armor as his prize for dropping the first spider.
The crew was getting ready to set off and follow up a lead that Wilmorton had received in a local market, when the crew’s scannerbot alerted them to approaching hostiles.
The local punk gang known as the NightHawks burst onto the landing pad, to find Parfits crew hunkered down behind cargo crates waiting for them. Ooops
The Nighthawks were rivals, old enemies of Wilmorton’s after she’d hacked their files in the local enforcer network as a prank, making them responsible for a string of embarrassing petty crimes, in addition to the offences they’d actually committed. Unfortunately Wilmorton had bragged about the fact while drinking in the local dive bar, and the news had got back to them.
The punk's new courage was explained by the presence of a K’Erin warrior, not that it made any difference. The gang was cut down to a man as they charged screaming across the landing pad. Scratch one rival.
