Just updated my blog with a whole lot of works in progress for my old school Napoleonic soldier collection. For you scholars of the Napoleonic era I have a question about French Line infantry uniforms, as well as a question for you toy collectors out there regarding the sanctity of a figure base. There are lots of pictures and some interesting history of the collection regardless, so enjoy a visit to Miniature Minions.

If you look at the shot of the Alberkan and Hinton hunt figures shown together about halfway down, you will note and odd black/white gaiter arrangement on the French trousers.  I painted some of my earliest 25mm minifigs like this as well and am sure that back in the day there was a source showing that arrangement.  Has anyone come across a reference for this?  I believe it must be incorrect, but would love to know where it came from.

I was distracted by the pot of bubbling peppers. ;D
And the glorious general led the advance
With a glorious swish of his sword and his lance
And a glorious clank of his tin-plated pants. - Dr. Seuss

Can't help with you on the gaiter question but always a joy to see your work, a real treat for the eyes. :)
