Hey I have that same cage. Dollar store toy. Painted it up several different ways. Have 4 of them. They are just the right size to put a 28mm figure in.

This is one hobby where it pays to be a parent. 

The only down side to that is you have to deal with the child's increasing value awareness and their sharpening trading/bartering skills.

Rubbish 
You just need to tell them they are too old for playing with toys, like their mother says, and all the toys need to be thrown out. And to add a sugar coating you tell them you will do them a favour and take the toys to the rubbish bin for them.
