Cheers Grumpy - yes these soft tracks are a pain to join otherwise. I have also used this method on 1/35 scale armour kits for tracks and it works really well.

Lovely looking tanks.

Years ago, when I was into 1/35 modern tank models, I used thread to tie the soft tracks together at the seam.  Worked like a charm..

Looking cool, I also like the stapler idea! Once, for a 1/35 model, I applied the rubber track perfectly, then, at the bend in the back part, it slowly cracked in 1-2 hours I was not happy.

Herewith Tamiya 1/35 Panzer II. Decals still need to be added I am hoping to play a skirmish wargame with this for North Africa, inspired by the likes of you Freddy.

Any suggestions on rules I could use? - at this scale, I want something really detailed and characterful.

May I suggest Fistful of lead. You can make it as detailed as you want.
Just make a list of actions that take one move (e.g. kneel, dive for cover, walk)
and another list for actions that take longer (e.g. stand up from lying down 2 moves,
reload a bolt action rifle 3 moves)
You can also keep orders, as we used to do for Western Gunfight skirmish in 54mm,
e.g Move 1  Walk
      Move 2  kneel & aim
      Move 3  shoot   
      etc.
