@Wellington took out our collections for a Napoleonic Peninsular Display Game at a local show. The British and river are his, the French and other terrain are mine.
The scenario is loosely based on one by Charles S. Grant. The British had to prevent the French from taking the bridge. To destroy it they had a squad of pioneers coming up. At the same time the British had to draw back as many troops as possible over the river, either using the bridge or a nearby ford.
A band of guerillas and the British dragoons managed to hold up the French long enough at the bottleneck around the orchard for the pioneers to blow up the bridge. The French however rushed forward (with some finally excellent command roles) and broke most of the remaining British units.
So was it a strategic victory but tactical defeat for the British or rather the other way around? You decide.
