I am very interested in the idea of the "Narrative Scenes", but perhaps we are going to need some play examples  ;)

Just wanted to check that we don't really need 288m figures! (Page 4)  lol

Looking forward to reading this over the Easter break.

Mythos Encounters and Fear of the Dark, both available in pdf from Wargames Vault both use 'Narrative Scenes'.  Both are very good value and look like fun if you don't mind the format.  Mythos Encounters even has a free supplement, 'Horror of Oldwitch',  that you can download to see how it all works.

I missed that on my first skim, good spot :D On the bright side, 228mm figures on a 600mm x 600mm board would keep the model count down ;D

I had a go at generating a 'Narrative Scene'.
Random dice rolls gave me the following:

What? - A series of disappearances.
Where? - Downtown.
Who? - Criminal Element
When? - In Progress (Secured). Bystanders and First Responders are onsite.

I then needed to generate two challenges. Using ChatGPT I got the following:
Charm - You encounter a witness who seems hesitant to share crucial information about the criminal element involved. Your task is to use your charm and persuasion skills to gain the trust of the witness and extract any valuable details.
Reason - You come across a complex puzzle left behind by the criminal element as a diversion tactic. Your task is to use your sharp reasoning skills to decipher the puzzle.

Also, I had a physical test generated.
Physical - You encounter a series of obstacles set up by the criminal element to impede your progress. To overcome this challenge, you must rely on your physical agility and strength to navigate through these obstacles.

I would hate to contradict you but it says 228m, which is kaiju class at 305mm to the foot!

I have also spotted a missing w.

Contradict away :D I think I saw what I expected both times - the first time I saw 28mm, the second time, having been alerted to the 228, I saw 228mm  ;D

I did notice that "alter" is used, rather than "altar" at one point. I have a piece of pre-painted scenery that I bought years ago that proudly proclaims to be an "Alter of Evil", which always makes me chuckle.

I'm still reading the rules, but I am looking forward to trying them out. I got sand on the bases of a bunch of Crooked Dice and Reaper Scarecrows this morning, so they are inching their way to the painting table.

I have been having some random thoughts on my first WNC case. I am not going to use the Narrative Scenes set up, because I usually write a scenario for my games (with background, deployment and objectives), often as part of a campaign, or as a sub-plot to an on-going campaign.

For my learning games I am going to run a four incident case, set in the 1920s (because I do not have much by way of modern minis or terrain). I am using a team of 4 Hunters in Egypt and I hope to get the first games in over the next week or so.

Anyone interested in the full campaign background, it's on my blog https://grahamsgaming.blogspot.com/2024/04/when-nightmares-come-first-campaign.html
