Aeronef Brits - Final Upgate
« on: 19 January 2010, 04:40:26 PM »
Okay so i've started painting the Brit's up that the guys that i got from Brigade.

Thought i'd share them with everyone.  Only done the Exeter class Cruiser so far as i wanted to test the scheme.  I've started the White area's at a mid Grey then slowly brought them up with thin layer's to the white they are now.  I wanted to make the colour look a little worn and dirty.  rather than crisp from the painter's shop.  Nice mixed wood deck as well really brings out the model.

Just click on the thumbnail for bigger piccies.

I might change the flag idea on future one's to hang underneath.  Not sure need to see how it look's.

I do plan to do the base as well with maybe half the union jack on it the other half the ships name.

I'll add some better piccies when i get sorted as well.  Just taken these at my desk at work :D

I'll also add the rest as i do them.  Should be easy only another Cruiser and 6 smaller craft.

Yes they are nice. The white and decks especially but not keen on the French looking fins ;D

As you can see I spent all my time on the fins and not the ships  ::)

Very nice chap..I might do some decal's for the fin's to be honest as i'm not overly keen on them either..Its more the lines aren't straight enough etc etc..

I've gotten into trouble about this before, but those 'blue-white-red' fins do look French (although they're accurate for WWI fins apparently); in WWII the RAF used 'red-white-blue' fins. Maybe we're just more used to reading red-white-blue as British, and blue-white-red as French?

Right... for impossible flying battleships of the 1880s, you mean?  ;)

Well, I think they're lovely even if fools (like me) might think they look French. I'll just have to train myself not to see a Tricoleur but a proper British tailfin.

Do they have any opponents? Or, like British (flying) ships should do, do they sail majestically about with no opposition (all together now: Rule Britannia, Britannia rules the skies, Britons never never never eat French Fries...)?

And the three hundred guinea question... are you bringing them over to the Atlantis campaign (shameless threadwhore that I am)?

Didn't the French have reversed roundels and "tricolour" tail fin designs to differentiate themselves from the British?

By that I mean from the outside red-white-blue as opposed to blue-white-red and tricolours with red on the left rather than blue (it wasn't very well written, but I knew what I meant  :(  ).

Either way they are lovely models and I can't decide whether I like them more than Svennn's, so you can take that as praise  ;)

I think Lupus has far exceeded my efforts. The decks especially look awesome. I am rather proud of the jacks on my fins but they only carry the models so far - and I threw the toys from the pram a lot when I did them ;D

Thanks for the kind praise guys.

I don't have anything in 28mm as yet and my plans for that direction oddly enough will be Japanese.  Though i do plan to get some Aeronef Jap's soon as well.

As for an opponent a friend of mine is painting up some German's as we speak.

If i can get my camera to play ball i'll post a piccie of the 2nd Cruiser.  The Steadfasts and Cossacks need undercoating but its so cold outside i'm going to hope it will warm up so i can spray.
