My problem with those rivets is, that I have to cut them of the sprue and sand them flat one by one.
Also 1.5mm across is too big for "realistic" rivets in 28mm ;) I use 0.4mm rod mostly.

I would immedeatly buy bags of plain rivet heads smaller than 1mm...

I thought that idea was to drill the appropriate size hole put the rivet in & put liquid poly on the reverse?

Tichy train group also do rivets:

I have some of these but could not face the drilling etc  :?

Tobi - since the rivets are applied prior to painting (sealing) I don't see why there would be a problem making a mold of anything with them on it. As for picking them off the backing individually - why would you want too - seems an awful lot of work when you can just as easily cut them off individually and "decal" them on. If your worried about the backing showing an application of Micro-sol or Solva-set will cause the backing to disappear , or at least not be as noticable.

I believe the decal is firm enough once it is sealed with paint. But I don't paint the model prior to making a mold to keep the original surface. I guess before sealing the decal you could easily scratch it off with a finger... and then it could also stick in the silicone, which wouldn't be so god... or am I wrong? ;)

I would think that using any decal setting solution should allow you to mold them without fear of them coming off in the mold. That said I would recommend a small test piece to make sure. Do you seal your pieces before making your mold? If so the sealer should work just as well as paint would. Mold release would probably also help to keep them from sticking to the RTV. But I do think that the decal setting solution would do the trick.

I use the plastic, sprued rivets and love them.  Bonding plastic to plastic is so easy, and these rivets come in a variety of sizes.  I scalpel them off the sprue at the rivet end, and almost never have to sand them.  In this picture I was using bolts instead of rivets, but you get the idea:

When using them with resin I occasionally change my method by cutting off the rivets at the sprue end, and then drilling holes to accept the resulting rivet shaft.  That's a lot of work though.
