Massed Battle on Atlantis
« on: February 28, 2010, 11:07:45 PM »
Head line news from the Atlantis continent
Japanese empire given a severe Dubbing on Atlantis
The British Empire wins the day.
(If anyone else disagrees we have loads of photographic proof from the numerous photographers who accompanied the victorious British force.)
Massed forces of the various nations fighting on Atlantis converged on an Evil Atlantian temple and along with fighting each other engaged major Atlantis forces for the first time.
The small vastly out numbered British force valiantly fought on two fronts and managed to defeat both the evil Japanese Empire and the main force of the Atlantian defenders including a strange mechanical automaton.
No one else seems to have posted any pictures so here are some of the ones taken by the British contingent.

Some photos are censored due to classified material (LPL rd 2)

Set up

US forces

The evil Atlantians

The out numbered British force

The huge Japanese force

Sanwar and Pirates

The glorious charge of the BRAS failed with a faulty explosive lance which killed its user.

The failed charge left the flank exposed

But the MAMMARIES rushed to the rescue and destroyed two of the tanks

but made a bad mistake because one of the crew survived to chop off the MAMMARIES Gatling gun with his samurai sword.

I will post the rest of the story tomorrow. The pictures are in my gallery

Unbelievably the Japanese 'tourist' forgot to bring his camera, though he did remember the tripod for it.

A far less impressive report is on my blog

VSF has never been my thing, really, but this game is just outstanding and I would have loved to participate! Wow. The urge to game VSF has been increased by this thread alone!

Thank you to everyone who helped to make the day such fun. Unfortunately I didn't get a chance to use my camera, being frequently distracted with questions about the rules.

My half of the American force was somewhat outgunned and had little defence against those bl**dy pirate automatons. However, my units US Marines consistently made their morale rolls and held their ground as they died to a man. Most surprisingly, Ensign Cruise and his naval landing party survived the game pretty much intact. My navy aeronef also provided useful fire support, but its exposed crew proved vulnerable to fire from the ground. However the star of the show was Marine Sergeant Eastwood who, being somewhat singed and angry after an encounter with the Sanwar hero in an impervious suit (as a hero armed with a flamethrower, this meant that he could fire 4 shots per turn :o ), scaled a rocky outcrop to slug it out for three turns with the Sanwar general. Finally he killed the general and in the next turn hurled his lackey over the cliff too. The Sanwar hero also got his just deserts when my marine impervious suit finally engaged him in close combat and killed him.

Lessons learnt:
* My marines need some god anti-armour fire support -preferably armoured.
* My marines need suport withgood close combat ability aganst automatons and the like.
* Keep lightly armoured aeronefs out of the range of enemy small arms fire.
