French West African Question
« on: May 01, 2010, 10:16:30 PM »
So I was painting up some Artizan W.W.I French Chasseurs as Mexican Federales.  The kepi is about right, and all you have to do is putty over the puttees to make long trousers, and then ignore certain inaccuracies (water bottle, rifle, etc.) and you're done.

However, some of the figures have some very 'French' mustaches & beards.

I then thought if I just gave them pith helmets (simple drop mould and some filing) I'd have French for West Africa.  Suddenly the water bottles & rifle wouldn't be merely passable.  They'd be perfect.

Although, I vaguely remember some photos from somewhere of unhappy/hot/damp French Marine infantry on river gunboats, and I think that they had long trousers.  No puttees.

Can anyone back me up on this?

Thanks,
MW
