Hi Stephen,

Thanks for showing your lovely painted Finns for all to see.

Great work on the uniform colour and the bases.

Whats your hint for the bases to get the effect you have created?

My best wishes to you for 2008.
Best wishes,
Helen

Hi Helen,

I use GW Snow mixed with PVA glue over a largely white base. I leave a few brown bits on which is later glued static grass. Once dry the white thing is varnished and then a PVA solution painted over the top (including a light brush over the grass). The base is then sprinkled with loose GW Snow and varnished again once dry.

I made the mistake with these are missing out the first varnish stage that is vital if the snow is to sit on top of the grass properly - doh!

The T-26 was just done with layers of GW Snow sprinkled over a PVA solution but I don't think that this covers as well.

The only thing slowing down my Finnish production line is the time it takes Brigade Games to supply North Star in UK - still I can always start of the BAM ones...

Happy Yuletide and best wishes for the New Year.

Regards,

Stephen

Hey thanks - although they came out a little yellow in the photos as I had to use a lot of artificial light.

I've only just browsed this thread, but to reply to something Hammershield said half a year ago, I am also an "out-of-the-closet Finlander" (though apparently not the first one in this thread - good turnout!). My mother is from Mikkeli, where Mannerheim kept his headquarters. My father, who was born shortly before the war, was evacuated to Sweden for the duration, as many Finnish children were. He was also a Finland-Swede (as was Mannerheim, obviously).

For all this, I think Helen already knows much more about the war than I ever will. I don't think I'll ever be gaming the Winter War, to be honest. But I love seeing that other people elsewhere in the world are doing it. Kudos to you guys!

Maybe there is an misunderstanding. I am not of your courageous stock (well, like most Swedes I probably am to some degree, given our countries common history) but my maternal grandfather was a Swedish volunteer for the Winter War.

Where in Sweden do you live, Rhoderic? It would be fun to gather the Swedes I know in the forum (Arcticman and Col. Stone so far) and take Triumph and Tradgedy or .45 Adventure for a spin.

No misunderstanding, by saying I'm "also" Finnish I was referring to the Finns that had posted in this thread before me (SirFuzaba and fho, and perhaps others that I missed). Well, I s'pose we've had a misunderstanding now :P

Being a university student, I live in Linköping for the moment, but I stay in Stockholm during the breaks and on the occasional weekend. However, I'm slated to get a year as a foreign exchange student in Japan in the near-ish future. This could be as far as 1 1/2 years from now though.

Hi Guys,

Just an update on where we are up too on my project. I'm still awaiting some bits and pieces to be released plus now I need to purchase some new Finns from BAM. I'll then be in a postion to start in our Winter Time.

Why does this Soviet 45 mm AT Gun look so similar to the German 3,7  ???
Thank you.

It uses the same basic chassis, the only real difference is the calibre, and the wheels!!

Ok, thank you.

I wasnt precise with my question.

I know that the calibre is different and I can see that the chassis was the same, but why was that ?

Was it a co production of pre war German and Soviet business relations ?

It doesnt matter if you dont know it. i try to google it out. In case you know it please let me know. Thanks alot !

Hi Bjorn,
I don't know myself, but I do know the Japanese went also with the same design.

Please let me know if you come up with anything.

Cheers

Hi Helen,

I know Wikipedia is not allmighty but this answer sounds pretty solid to me.
