WIP Pirate Ship

Hi,

Having purchased the Minimi Sloop nearly a year ago, I thought I would dig it out of storage and work on it over the late Bank Holiday weekend -





The paint work needs finishing off and I have made some stored sails to hang on the masts. The ship's wheel and anchor also need to be fitted.

Lovely.  I too would like to aplaud your rigging - enough to add a flavour but not so much as to get in the way of gaming.

Thanks for the kind comments.

I was concerned about the rigging - lots of rope to get in the way and get caught up when moving miniature around so I just installed the "escence". It did take a couple of atempts though; I'll use different rope on the next ship (the Minimi brig) as the Billings rope is very "furry".

Because storage is always a problem I have made the main mast demountable; the mast rigging "clips" into place on the sides of the ship to maintain the tension.

Regarding 'furry' rope, if you pull it taught and quickly run a lighter flame along it's length you can sometimes get rid of the stray fibres.

Liquid cement with a brush appilcator if you work sparingly will give a good effect too.

A bit more low tech solution is to take and draw the thread/string across a candle. Beeswax works best but any will do. It smooths out the fibers and leaves a surface that will usually take paint but not washes on stains.
