Victorian Torchwood (New photos 18 Jun 2010)
« on: June 04, 2010, 03:17:37 PM »
Photo from the Torchwood archives, ca. 1890. Here shown is operative Adelaide Peterson witnessing the opening of a portal within a suspicious gravel quarry on the Isle of Man and the emergence of those on the far side. The outcome of this incident is unknown.

The gate is made from VCR parts, and I ran Gimp's "Old Photo" macro on it just for kicks.

Here is operative Adelaide Peterson, here shown in a reconstructed undated photo from the Torchwood archives, ca. 1890.  Widely believed by archivists to be somewhat psychic, her origins and eventual fate are unknown.

Ms. Peterson is kitbashed from a figure of unknown manufacturer and hands from Reaper Miniatures.

Here shown a retouched photo from the Torchwood archives, ca. 1890, showing operative Adelaide Peterson attempting to psychically attune herself to a piece of captured alien weaponry. While the archives perished in the test, it appears that Ms. Peterson and the cannon both survived. Later records indicate that the test site was used as a gravel quarry in the 1970s.

Cannon made from parts rescued from the melt bin at Reapercon.

Does Torchwood use a "Stargate" or is it more a doorway to another dimension?
(I don't watch the show, beyond knowing it's a spinoff from Dr. Who, I know nothing about it)
Looking for a set of rules that adaptable for different genres.

Torchwood is all about the sorts of things that happen in a Doctor Who episode when The Doctor's not there to keep Human Nature from taking over.  More guns, more sex, more profanity.

So while they do not use stargate type things per se, there's nothing saying they can't encounter them.

May I request an un-Gimped image? I can't quite make out the intruders.

And, of course, I'd like a better look at the 'gate' for possibilities of shameless copying.

Part I was about to say when someone else rudely proved themselves far more knowledgeable,  lol
Having only seen some episodes of the first season, though I'm striving to catch up, thank you Netflix online streaming, in spite of the occasional out-of-sync audio, I gather there's no one piece of tech you always see, right? Whatever plays best deus, or infernus, ex machina for the plot at hand?

Seriously, Meister Frog, thanks for verifying the above.

Nice work. All looks very period.

Hereyago.  The intruders are Reaper Miniatures "XAIRbots", but they're only just released.

This is correct.  We've only seen maybe two minutes of the Victorian Torchwood stuff, but in the rest of the series there's the hub and the SUV that are seen all the time, but everything else changes up.

Again, my thanks.

Not sure I could do justice to the metal parts to bring them up to the effect in the original image, but certains, reminds me of some plastic gears I've got somewhere that might just do the trick.

For Ms. Peterson and cannon, however, I can only express my admiration!

Isn't she one of the Brigade Games' GASLIGHT Victoria Hawkes figures?

Looks like she is.  She was missing hands when I found the figure, and I reposed mine slightly.

I've always regarded that figure as rather poor, but you've changed my mind. Clearly it's just the paintjob that's put me off in the past.

... and a very good job you've done too - that also goes for your brush work. Those eyes are superb!    :-*

No, the figure is actually quite poor.  Sorry to have to say that.

Thank you all for the kind words.

Still up is the Victoria Hawkes figure with the pith helment and targeting goggles (converted to be carrying a huge wrench and some sort of scanner), and then some antagonists.

For other operatives I'm not sure.  My supply of non Zulu-Wars Victorians is slightly limited.

Ah, in that case, you've done an even better job than I thought, well done!
