As the subject line reads, really. I am planning on setting up a ship based pirate game for the Caribbean and for the East Africa/Indian Ocean, and I am wondering what the best suppliers of buildings that are appropriate for the two areas are. I am using converted megabloks ships for my vessels, but I am also going to need to get some dhow - although I think I am going to give it a shot making my own. I tried going through the resin building lists in the Workbench section, but most of those seem to be more modern or European.
Also, if anyone has a suggestion of the best areas to look for pointers on building my own, please suggest away.  I promise, I'll take pictures of what I am doing. You lads seem to be the best source of help on the Interwebs, so I am asking.

I think this thread could be useful:

If I were to build my own I would copy the concepts from Colonial Steamboat:

http://www.colonialsteamboat.co.uk/handmade_models/handmade_middle_east_28mm.html

I have a fair number of these, light but sturdy. They are built by foamcard.

A newcomer that are selling some components can maybe also be of interest:

Look forward to see your buildings!

You clearly have the talent to scratchbuild something like that.

Here's a link to the Kobblestone Miniatures catalog Spanish section:

http://www.kobblestone.ca/catalogue.htm#spanish

That should be a good source for a few nice detail bits, though the whole set is pretty expensive.

I'm sure you remember this fine still active WIP thread by Wolf-girl:

Should be able to get plastic or styrene brick pattern at Tammies' to put under some sections of crumbling adobe.  Should also be able to order 1:48 scale Plaststruct Spanish tile roofing material through Tammies' and use it to make alternate roofs to put over the flate roofs so that the buildings can do double duty (tiled roofs in Italy, Spain, the Carribean, or the Spanish Main, or flat roofs in North or East Africa, the Middle-East, or parts of Mexico).

And Brigade Games sells a few Spanish buildings:

Yep! Though it was a sort of accident that I was on LAF tonight due to a PM that somebody sent me from LAF about a Cthulhu tatoo remark of mine.  Haven't been on LAF much in recent months.

Here's a whole thread on Spanish style buildings started by Argonor's query:

http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=19419.0

Oops, duh!  That's the very next active thread on this list!

Speaking of Spanish buildings, I saw some fabulous Spanish style buildings the last three years or so at the NHMGS Enfilade convention in Olympia, Washington, as part of a western gunfight game.  The resin building kits were designed by Company B, better known for it's WW2 vehicles, but the Spanish style buildings are not on the Company B web site.  The resin kits were being sold at the convention by Monday Knight Productions, which is based in Vancouver, Washington, and Milwaukie, Oregon, but the resin building kits are not on the MKP web site either.  I know there were several unsold Spanish style 28mm size resin kits at the end of the convention, so maybe it would be worth a telephone call to enquire about them:

I have made loads of Adobe buildings. You can see lots of photos if you trawl through my Gallery:

http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?action=gallery;su=user;cat=38;u=86

They would work fine for The Caribbean etc, perhaps adding pantile sloping roofs would also work. They are fairly easy to scratchbuild.

Here are my pirate buildings. A mixture of the Gary Chalk Spanish style ones mixed in with a few Adobe's.  The plans were in an old Wargames Illustrated but I think are now in the Foundry compendium(?)

Traveller, you are absolutely right.  I didn't know that Brigade Games sold those buildings, but those are the ones that I remember from Monday Knight Productions and Company B at the Enfilade convention.  That church and a couple of the two story buildings are really good looking.

Just a note about the Miniature Building Authority Spanish Main buildings, some of which might be useful to you: at the moment, they're pre-orders due out in September.  So possibly not your best bet if you're in a rush.  We saw them in the flesh at Historicon and frankly, we ordered the lot. (OK, we were going to do that anyway, but that's beside the point.)  We also picked up some of the Brigade Games buildings, which have yet to be assembled.  Dry-fitting seems to suggest they won't be too horrible to get together.
