Had a bit if a brainwave today (had the choice to either go shopping with three Japanese girls or stay at home and make stuff.. Guess which one was the most appealing  ).

To get to the station my original idea was to have a simple set of steps up but I was browsing Victorian photos and I saw a beach lift which I thought would suit quite well.

I've only done the base of it as the car and ticket office will be done at work but I've put the signal box in place to give a better idea of the intention

Might be worth looking at Inclined Planes too. They were used to transport canal tugs up/down steep slopes where locks weren't practical. In your case perhaps wagons or containers from the canal to the railway.

There's one at the museum where I volunteer. Very impressive it is too:

Cheeks, with the set up as it is planned a canal incline won't fit but that doesn't mean I can't do it later 

I'm also going to make the station and ramp house one and the same so it should look quite good when it's done (plenty or corners and roof pitches etc).

Question for you chaps!

I'm still undecided as to the colour of normal brickwork... The choices I have are...

1. Keep it the same as the stonework
2. Paint it red as normal brick but have more of a Mars looking highlight (orange)
3. Go for something quite pale, like London stock, similar to Cheeks' buildings

What do you reckon? Bear in mind that there will be normal looking terraces and warehouses etc.

Brickwork: Base it on the colour that bricks would be dependant on which state has built the railway.

If the Brits had any input then I would definitely go for a London Stock scheme.
That just screams Victorian to me.
It should also work as a nice contrast to the bulk of the stonework and help blend into your other buildings nicely.
