That's okay. Parterre got a bit of a renaissance in the UK during the latter half of the 19th Century (fell out of favour in the early 1700's). It was slightly different in that it used blocks of coloured planting to form the shapes and forms rather than just the hedging but hedging was still used in places. The flowers/plants used were annuals so lived and died in the one year, requiring a full replant each time. This did allow them to showcase the 'latest' horticultural fashions though

Clearly the officer residing is a bit of a traditionalist who likes the hedging. Also, given the harsher climate the block colour planting only lasts a short time and has currently been cleared in preparation for the replanting.

(I don't know, botany lessons on monocot plants not long ago and now garden history. Clearly my time at uni wasn't totally wasted  )

Incidentally, one of the best examples of a true High Victorian Garden is in the middle of Alton Towers. Given the cost of entry however, people rarely take the time to enjoy the gardens while rushing to the next adrenalin packed ride.

Er... Six by four for New Victoria and then the same again but rotated 90 degrees for the viaduct (I think). If I get a chance I'll take a picture of the cad plan I've got.

Well, after a couple of weeks casting I can back on to making the Salute table  

The viaduct will have a spur line and the signal box is already made (way back on page 32) but I was at a loss on how to have it on the viaduct and then it came to me the other day and I built a biggish tower for it to sit on. Just wip photos for now but I'm ramping it up a notch to get everything finished  




Working on the residency roof as well which should be roughed out tonight.

Residency roof is roughed out and I made a glaring error  you can't see it in the photos and I'm not going to point it out 




Needs details, possible chimneys and painting. Also the front portico needs to be done but I came up with a quick and effective way of doing it but it'll have to wait a few days. Highlights and weathering to the railings and walls and it's ready to go
