Icons or scenery of Cthulhu - more sculpting
« on: September 09, 2010, 09:14:32 AM »
I'm having a go at some icons or scenery for Cthulhu. I've got the left hand and middle section done and now need to mirror the left to make a right................ I think I've refined the sculpting a bit already for this left hand section over my first attempt with the middle so may well resculpt that if I can carry off the right hand one............

Pics - the left hand icon is 8.5cm from top to bottom

the pair arranged together - planning them being above a doorway/opening/cave mouth......... something!!

a link to the first pics of the middle section I posted the other day
http://frothersunite.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=28070&start=10

The backing piece is Sculpey grey firm, the main sculpt is Super Sculpey with bearings and Magic Sculpt for the teeth.

Feedback as always appreciated  8)   :D

Love the 'blobby' one...cthulhu is not quite right for me...I think it's his nose...makes him look a little to 'doggy'.

Sorry for all the madeuppy words...

These are wonderful, but Uncle Mike is right about the nose. I saw your stand too; that's great too. But it looks like it only holds to minis?

Hi, the stand item is currently just a piece of scenery to pop miniatures onto and around - any suggestions to adapt it to something else more than welcome  8)

I'm very new to the sculpting complete pieces thing so I'm over the moon to get feedback and input.

Cheers

Did say that in the other thread, lose the nose it's not Davy Jones but he who sleeps... or something like that.

Hoping to get on with some sculpting again this evening, work got in the way yesterday  lol

Will sort the nose out - got carried away trying to use the comic art for reference!

The mirror of the other one is started so hopefully will have the trio sorted this evening  8)

That's the plan  ;)

The stand is very cool. I'd suggest you make several more and vary their height. If you set them up together in a group you will get a very nice effect on the table.

Hi all I've resculpted the middle piece that had the
full face on and moved away from the art work I followed before in favour of something from my own mind  :loopy:

Here's the set of 3

close view of the new middle section

and the newly sculpted right hand panel, not quite a mirror of the left but I was pleased to get this close!!

Next stage is to join the upper tips together to make a triangle topped obelisk and then go from there........ somewhere!!

Cheers for getting back on the stand item, I nice idea to make some different sizes, if I can carry off the plan for the 3 parts
of the obelisk I'll try those next  8)

Now you're talking! All three faces are different but they now look like a continuous whole because they are all in the same style now.

This is going to be one epic looking piece. I have to say the new middle piece works a lot better for me, it goes together better with the other two and because its a bit of the beaten path, (as far as there is one with the tentacles one) he looks a lot more alien.

Wow  :o thanks everyone for the feedback, I seriously can't thank you all enough,
I'm enjoying the process and getting better at making details smaller and finer.

I've put the 3 units together and sculpted in the underside of the living icon -

http://www.designedbymind.com/crumbreaper/cthulhu6.jpg

I put the 3 pieces together then sculpted a "vault roof" type membrane between the lower triangles which is then textured. I need to do some work on the seams and joins and repair some of the tentacles that got dislodged in the heavy handling I'm prone too!!

I'll be doing some more individual ones from the feedback on these, I feel really fired up to get more ideas out into the sculpey  :D

Interesting. I thought this would be a flat wall piece, but this is much more ambitious.

Nice work I must say! BUT I personally liked alot more when they were just single wall icons :). Though I might still have use of a "living icon" heh.. I hope you do more of those wall pieces and get them sold somewhere
