This must be the place!
« on: February 16, 2011, 05:46:27 PM »
Well,
I'm addicted to 2 Very OOP games.
Crimson Skies is one, but see other posts for that

Here seems to be the place to talk about my other obcession...
Star Frontiers.
Does anyone here know of it?

It was released in 1982 when I was but a lad of 20 myself. I had been playing AD&D for a few years then. But I love Sci Fi above Fantasy. So, I had pined for a Lasers and spaceships game. Then TaDa! SF!

It was put out by TSR the makers of D&D, and showed its lineage, but was different too. all rolls are % rolls or d10(mostly for dammage there)

There were 6 boxed sets of lead minis
Adventurers
Player Characters
Robots(small box only 6 bots)
UPF ships(the good guys)
Sathar ships(the evil worm like alien bad guys)
andYachts & Privateers ships

I have modified several of the PC races figs and as soon as I can figgure out how to get pix from my crappy TracFone onto a computer I want to post them here.
Later Pb heads! :D
Quality has a quantity of its own
FIAWOL!

I've just run the starter Star Frontiers three module adventure for my players using Hard Nova II rules. It was fun but very, very 80s.
You can get everything you could ever want for Star Frontiers here:

Yup, I knows a tad about it. Been meaning to introduce the arpeg to my D&D group. I own the Adventurers set, maybe the players one too, I don't remember. Loved the alien races and general, open and unlicensed setting.

Welcome aboard, fellow!
Everything is better with lizardmen.

@ Matakishi I am very acctive there, look in the issues and you will see my byline there in several issues. But Thanks for the answer. I wanted to try and find someone new to talk about this.
@ Bako Not Baka? hmmm...  :D Big joke, didn't mean anything insulting, just forgot I was in a new pklace where everybody doesn't know me yet. so, we good?
Annyway, Thanx for the welcome aboard, I hope to be here a long time.

I was talking about it the other day in fact. Just not on here. I was bemoaning the fact that you can't get decent Vrusk anywhere (even my shockingly bad modelling putty skills can create a viable Dralasite).

Yes, you will find quite a few people on here who've been gaming since the 80s. Some even since the 70s.

Welcome, pull up an Edorna and make yourself comfortable.

Oh, we're quite fine, fellow! You'd have to do far, far worse by a long mile to even mildly insult me :). 'Bako' is short-form for my original username (Bako'Ikaporamee). Depending on who's talking to me though it can be either 'Bako' or 'Batko'. If anyone's a silly baka, it's you though ;D.

Always liked the Yazarians.

Damned flying monkeys in goggles. I just use any old monkey models I can find. Judge Dredd armed Chimps, Wookies, I don't really care.

Yazirians were always my favourite when playing. Got to love battle rage.

Just not for modelling. I never fancied making the wings.

I've got some of the actual figures kicking around my bits box. My 80's sci-fi project is on indefinite hold though :?.

@ Red Orc

I took a MageKnight elf warior(female, can't remember which one exactly) took off the sword and head, sculpted a passable head in sculpy, and put on wings, real easy, just rokk out flat, carve into appropiate shapes, drape like in gravity and viola! nearly instant Yazarian, wookioe, chimp, whatever you wanna call it.
@ Bako: Well, I have started a LOL annonimous, but for you LOL

BTW if you have ever LOL'd "socially"
or lost time after LOLing
or done something you never would have except for having LOL'd,
come to the meetings at my place, the coffee's horrible of course.

Oh yeah, very familiar.  Sold off a collection of the ships a while ago.

Have to admit when I saw the title I (being, from a rebound marriage, ex-LDS,) flashed to various jokes and variations on the Brigham Young line, "This is the Place,"  such as "This is the place??!!"

Gracias,

Glenn

Sorry, but the LDS esoterica play on words went right over my pointy little head. As a US History Major, I feel ashamed, but don't recognize the reference. Would you like to expand on it?
