Some of you may already know that, amongst my other projects, i've got a Battlestar Galactica game i'm working on.

As part of this, I'm going to build a ship for 28mm scale figures, that I can use for boarding actions etc.  Its not meant to be a copy of the Galactica, as in 1/55th, it would have to be 88 feet long!  The reason i've switched to working on this, as opposed to my Aliens Colony (which is still very much a WIP) is that by making the flight pods separate, the main vessel will, in effect serve as a USCM vssel, killing two birds with one stone!

As you will see below, I've just started on my main Colonial ship, complete with its own unofficial fluff:

CFR Odysseus (Colonial Fleet Reserve)

A fraction of the size of a Battlestar, it was intended to act as a training vessel, for nugget pilots, prior to the attack on the Colonies, but it also functioned variously, as a Disaster Relief Vessel, Fleet Support, and test platform for new systems/craft.  External weaponry is limited, primarily to short-range defensive batteries, and the ship carries a variety of small craft, according to its mission.

At the time of the Cylon attack, CFR Odysseus was conducting a test upon a new passive-Dradis system, which meant that the majority of its systems were offline.  With minimal electronic signature, the ship avoided detection, during the initial Cylon onslaught.

After witnessing the destruction of the Battlestar Vesuvius (at the time part of the same DRADIS exercise), the crew of the Odysseus, set about rescuing what stranded pilots, and refugees, that they could, before deciding upon their course of action....

Basically, the Odysseus isn't part of the Rag-tag fleet, meaning that although it exists in the reimagined BSG universe, I can do whatever the hell I like with it.

 ;)

Configuration of the ship:

For scale purposes, i've put an antiquated Viper MkI in one of the flight pods.  That little black dot, midway down the main hull is a 28mm crew member.

Each flight pod is made up of 3 sections, each 300mm x 600mm, creating a 6' long hangar, when assembled end to end.

The main hull consists of 5 sections, each 500mm wide x 600mm long, meaning that the vessel will be 10' long (and 4' wide) when completed.

The sides of the hull, will be, for the most part 100mm high, with 6mm MDF, clad with 6mm polysterene, to allow for some texture (and battle damage) to be added to the exterior.  All of the base boards are 12mm MDF.  Most of the internal walling will be 3mm foamboard.

Quite, quite mad. Inspiringly so, mind you!

For crew?

Some generic figures I had cast up a while back for various projects, plus various manufacturers i've scoured stuff from - a guy in a car mechanic's overalls magically becomes Colonial Groundcrew, if painted bright orange....   ;)

More details on my blog of the figures.

No bullet-heads yet, but I have a few ideas.

Here is what i've got done so far - I started working on it, at the beginning of the month, and wanted to get something meaningful done, before starting this thread.

Progress so far:

Stern Section (Starboard Flight Pod - Hangar Bay)
At the top of the photo, there is a gantry that will connect to the main hull.  Couple of part finished models, to give you an idea of scale.

I've also laid down the LED strips, to get an idea of where they will fit in - not attached at the moment.

Mid Section (Starboard Flight Pod - Hangar Bay)

The big boxed area, top right is where the lift will be - in game terms, this area will be out of bounds, but provides a handy place for the wiring to go. The small boxed in area, at the foot of the picture is raised up, and won't get in the way of the craft.

Forward Section (Starboard Flight Pod - Hangar Bay)

Two forward-facing launch tubes, on the right of the picture.  On the left is the launch control booth, and another access point to the main hull.

Shot from the Stern of the Starboard hangar bay

Shot from the Forward section, looking down the length of the hangar bay

You're mad; old news.  lol

I've never quite resolved my issues with the newly imagined BSG, but I've got plenty of resin and diecast ships waiting to blow each other out of the aether, so I'll swallow my pride, old news as well, and watch with keen interest.

Wow Akky! I thought your last project was the D's B's. This looks like bettering it with ease.

Fantastic  ;D

The first of my crew.  Some of my own figures, with head swops from crooked dice, plus minis from hasslefree, heresy, empress, artisan, eureka, and a few others.
