I am very much not a fan of most Old Glory figures. But having seen Bjorn's Pathans first hand in Germany last year, I must say, they are quite nice figures and work well alongside the Foundry Hill tribesmen.

Don't see any problem with using the Baluchis - it was just an observation - the more variations the better.

Nice looking set up there - looks like Darkest Africa Balouchis mixed in too.
I'm making an entire force composed of Balouchis
I used to be with it, but then they changed what it was. Now what I'm with isn't it anymore and what is it seems weird and scary.

You can see my Foundry Guides here http://rabbitsinmybasement.blogspot.com/2010/07/soldiers-of-queen-empress-part-2.html

and my assorted tribesmen here: http://rabbitsinmybasement.blogspot.com/2010/07/soldiers-of-queen-empress-part-5.html

And yes, some Guides skirmishing against some recalcitrant tribesmen is totally fine as a start. The Guides were so tough and so sought after a posting because they were in constant action, which is what every ambitious young officer wanted was action and a chance to make a name for himself.

Good gaming!

Can anyone offer a basic overview of the mechanics for T&T? I really like BP for the larger actions and my group seem to have got the values right for the units, but I'm also looking for something to represent smaller actions/sorties/pickets/outposts and the like.

Hi,

for a start you can check the website !
There is some basic information.

Please download the English quick ref sheet and you get an idea !

The initiative is the key part of the game. It gives you a great variety of tactical possibilities and enables realtime wargaming.

Unfortunately I have an appointment with a dentist in a few minutes. I come back later.

Cheers
Björn

The Guides is my favourite unit when paly along the Frontier.
Mine are made of old Willie , very impressive.
Considering their drill, capacities, will to fight, stubborn attitude, Guides should be considered very closed to a British Regiment , plus the capacity to move like Pathans on difficult terrains.
My considerations coming from books and reports of English officers on the frontier.

In many ways the Guides and other PFF regiments were superior to the British regiments on the frontier. The Guides were fighting on their home ground and had a reputation for being fierce, agile and excellent shots - skills which they then took back with them to their own clans when they left the army. Many of the Sikh regiments were very steady, reliable units. On the other hand the British regular regiments were often only called up to the frontier in response to emergencies and had to learn to fight in the hills. The only real advantage that they had was the Lee-Metford rifle over the Martinis used by most Indian regiments. If you look at the 1897 risings you see that a number of British regiments had small detachments cut off and wiped out - usually as a result of not knowing the rules of frontier warfare. The Somerset Light Infantry looked decidedly dodgy up on the frontier and were returned as unfit for duty (they may well have been suffering en mass from malaria).

As an aside, I'm fairly sure that the turbans on the Foundry Guides are wrong - all of the photos that I've seen of the Guides show them in tall, cylindrical turbans, whereas the Foundry ones seem to have the same turban as the Sikhs, but with a kulla (pointed skullcap) added. Still nice minis though.

Does the QRS help you or do you need more info on T&T.

Hi Driscloes,

Yes it is helpful, it has given me a quick overview. Now that I've put my mind to it I think I know someone who has a copy - I'll have to try to arrange a game,

Hobbit I agree with you  ;)
Concerning the turban of the Guides, the units were formed by various coys of different tribes/races, so the turban would have been different from one coy to another.
Foundry just choose one.
