Aliens board game in 28mm [updated 21.4.: Chestburst colonist]
« on: 10 February 2012, 12:19:54 PM »
My current project - have completely forgot to post here. I'm doing the old Leading Edge Aliens BG Reactor Room scenario in 28mm.

Looking good so far! Your copy of the Aliens Boardgame looks to be in really great condition.

I'm curious how the alien resin walls of the hive will work out, I think they are the hardest to get right. Maybe add a couple of ribbed cables and wires or something for that biomechanoid feel.

Ask and you shall receive. Here's the latest update, with test pieces for the hive walls:

Short of hiring Pedro Navvaro to sculpt them you're going to find the hive Walls difficult. What you've come up with works more than well for tabletop gaming, I wonder how it'd look with a more satin/gloss finish?

didn't think of asking Pedro to make these, I'll ask him tonight - I've been following this as I'd like to do it myself. I've Pedro making me a not alien too  :D

The third wall is the best. You could improve it by adding skeleton pieces may be (such as large dinosaur plastic spine).
I wish I were an octopus to paint more miniatures...Cthulhu must be a great painter

Really cool wall tests. They all look good to me.

On another note,
I just finished painting that same EM-4 miniature from the third entry.

Yours looks way better than mine.  :'(

I now wish I had gone with a cammo pattern like you did.

Of course, some obscure company made a couple of resin gigeresque wall pieces a few years ago, it pops up here from time to time :) If you can find any images, it'd be a nice source of sinpiration...

I agree that the third wall test piece loks the best, although the first one is ok too :)

Maybe you can experiment with a glossy finish, on the movie stills the walls look pretty smooth and wet. IIRC one of the marines in the movie even says that the temperature and air humidity are very high.

"Yeah, but it's a dry heat!" :D

Definitely looking to do that, actually bought some gloss varnish for that exact purpose!

Thanks everyone for the comments so far!

Project update time!

I built some of the obstacles that will appear on the board:
