Aliens Board
« on: June 02, 2014, 12:32:09 AM »
I'm a relative new-comer to the awesomeness that is the Leading Edge Aliens game. However, I decided to make my own board. I also wanted to balance the board and made some changes to the layout. Anyway, here it is:

Great work! Would love some close-ups of the figures. :)

That's very good and instantly recognisable. I'd also like more photos and also who made the mini's.  ;)

Great colouration.

What do the numbers signify?
Unfamiliar with the game.

Our gang used to play that game quite a lot. Devilishly hard to win, as I recall. Lots of fun, though, and generally sessions would turn into a quote-fest. Nice one.  :)

There's a flash version of the game somewhere on the internet, if memory serves.

Those are the original Leading Edge Aliens miniatures. A real difficult find nowadays, or at least they were the last time I searched.

And thanks for posting this Kiltedyaksman. I've been perfectly happy hanging out on the fantasy boards lately and you go and drag me back with this beautiful Aliens terrain piece. Dammit...

Thanks guys :)

The numbers represent an X and Y axis. You roll a d10 for the vertical number and the same for a horizontal to randomly place the aliens each round.

The miniatures are not super awesome sculpts but they are fun. I put them on diamond plate bases so they wouldnt fall over as easy.

The board is in two halves. That way I can stack one half on top of the other for easy storage. The floor and walls are made of dental plaster using hirst arts molds (as are the pipes). I copied the fold out poster that came with the game, except I balanced the numbers a bit and in some cases showed hatches coming from the ground instead of just building up for everything. Just a little change of pace.

Yes, this is a notoriously hard game...and it often ends in a quotefest :)

Ahhh, yes rare as hen's teeth but twice as pricey.

You'll notice there are only nine rows (If I'm counting right). Original game had an optional 'bonus bug' rule. If you roll 0,0, extra bug.

My board had a short rail around the hole; give this a thought? Also, I wanted to cut out the hole for a dice rolling tray, but never got around to it.

Well done! I used to be locally famous for running this; usually had one player per marine, in spite of the rules making it perfectly possible for up to four marines to incapacitate/die before taking any actions. Death-at-start only happened a couple of times, but is a bitter pill.

Mind you, nine players plus me rolling for the Aliens and inforcing my own 'bonus bug' rule to keep table talk to a minimum could get pretty crowded.
