The (now) old Elven maids are very stylised - but they have a certain style, anyway. That goes for Kev White's paint job on them, too.
Whoever is in charge of these departements at Foundry's nowadays just tries to copy. And whoever it is, for me it's a fail. The actual models might be okay in the lead. However, they are lacking any consistency in theme and execution. Why, for example, the mix of Pseudo-Greek and Pseudo-Persian styles? Why the shields with Sparta's Lambda on it? Why had these horses to be altered with plumes and new manes - for the worse?
In general, there might be the odd model which looks a bit better than the rest. But still, Foundry asks for a heavy sum - which I find, if just compared to the quality of their older ranges, unreasonable.
If I was to paint Amazons in hoplite wardress, I would choose
Eureka's range - or, failing that, Wargames Factory for their price tag.
