Superhero transport suggestions?
« on: 15 March 2012, 06:49:19 PM »
I'm wondering if folks had any good suggestions for inexpensive toys/models that they felt made for good Superhero transports for their 28mm games.  I'm looking for ground, air and sea transports.  Please include pics or product shots/links if you have them!

I'll seed the discussion with a couple of good ones I've found:

G. I. Joe Skysweeper Jet:  this one converts easily with just a little paint over the clear canopy

Hot Wheels Custom Motors:  this line of 1/43 scale vehicles has a lot to offer, but the best has to be the multi-configuration Batman Begins Tumbler Batmobile kit:

Sci-fi cars from Antenociti's Workshop:

I bought about 4 Heroclix Hawkeye figures from Troll & Toad just for the Sky Cycles:

You can easily cut off Hawkeye and re-paint the sky cycle, though I haven't yet figured out how to take the Avenger's "A" off the windshield.

I have been considering the Atenociti's future cars. They look just the ticket. :)

Hulka; you can just say the "A" stands for "Awesome"...  lol

Besides, who didn't fantasize about Batman joining the Avengers when they were twelve?

There are some cool paper model plans available from WorldWorks, like these.  I just wish several of these were available in plastic or resin instead.

I have a ton of stuff sitting around waiting to be modified or used in our supers games.  A lot of the big "team jets" can be fudged by getting the ones from the toy lines.

The Justice League Unlimited Javelin 7 is awesome, especially if you're willing to gut the interior and make a new one to scale (my ongoing and barely started project):

I also have an X-Men 2 Movie X-Jet reserved for similar treatment, and a Cobra NightRaven from the GI Joe line.  This really only works if you want big beefy jets a la the X-Men's Blackbird, but they look cool and impressive on the table.  Just wait until someone is selling them for super cheap, and snatch one up.  My group is using the Night Raven currently as they wanted something that looked like the classic Blackbird.

I have started making some near future transports from old computer part casings (mouses and speakers). With some extra bibs and bobs they make nice smooth clean looking transports. I'll try to take some photos and post them up soon. Maybe a little too Anime for what you want though.

There's also the AT-43 Karman Buggy thing:

The monkey man is easy enough to remove. If I remember to take the camera back home, I'll take a size comparison pic later.

Still available from some places (Ludik Bazar in France have a pack of 5 for €27.oo, though postage tends to be quite high).

Are the guns on the front also relatively easy to remove/reposition?  They look like they would be except for the mounting bracket that would be left and need to be covered...

Hope these help. Minis are Hasslefree & Grenadier/ em4.
Guns are easy to remove, the whole thing isn't properly glued together, so modifications shouldn't be too hard.
