Music for Cyberpunk inspiration
« on: April 06, 2012, 10:27:07 AM »
I put together a Spotify playlist for atmospheric cyberpunk-ish background listening while gaming/painting. Hope it's ok to post it here! It's currently a major source of inspiration, so figured some of you might be interested as well.

Here's the post to go with it

Feedback and suggestions gladly accepted.

Should have a look at the vast EBM scene, post industrial, electro, etc. ... Indeed, there's plenty of things, so it really depends on what exact mood you are in ...
OST from Tron2 or GitS (including SAC 1-2-3) might be a good atmospheric starting point. Combichrist might be a bit too "harsh" for you, but quite a reference too:

(Hocico, Suicide Commando, Velvet Acid Christ, PainStation, Klute, etc. ... may be alternatives too)

Also found this (fro free !): Harware OST

Thanks for the tips!

I'm trying to steer clear of music with vocals, though. Velvet Acid Christ was a great suggestion!

If you like the video be sure to check out the movie this was the soundtrack for, The Gene Generation (as it says in the video). Quite fun 8)
Let me hear the battle cry
Calling on the wind
Let me see the banners fly
Before the storm begins

I would recommend checking out some Aphex Twin. The title that comes to mind is untypeable so sorry for that and some of his stuff is a little too mellow for cyberpunk but i recommend checking him out. Did a quick search and try Quoth, Hexagon or shiny metal rods. Both his albums "Collected Ambient Works" volumes 1 and 2 should give you some nice stuff to work with.
Also check out Nine Inch Nails Ghosts albums 1,2,3 and 4, lots of moody dark ambient music there and no lyrics either :)

Can't go wrong with Gary Numan.
The classic, though there are many more that work well to:

Going with the atmospheric, side B (doesn't that date me) of David Bowie's Low would be good,
this song particularly:

Cruxshadows is another band that would work well, bit more energy than atmospheric, but not too much

I have a pirate copy somewhere on CD bought when I was in Kosovo.

one of my all-time favorites. this track especially would be good for cyberpunk,
though it was used in Island of Dr.Moreau too.

Yup.  I've still got it on cd.  A couple of standout tracks, but more a corporate sell-out styled cyberpunk than pure rebellion kind of thing.

Wumpscut, Punto Omega, Cenobita, ICC434, This Morn'Omina and Feindflug are also nice.

If you want something atmospheric and tribal then there's this awesome song:

other atmospheric stuff :
Raison d'Etre

Monolith

Heavy stuff could inlude Sonar, Dive and Tumor :

Do not meddle in the affairs of dragons,
for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup.
