Fram repurposes various figures (update 10/15 Orc Hero)

The diamond check was freehand. Just a weird idea I got when trying to figure out what to do with the shield. I didn't want to do a freehand design, because I didn't want to detract from the carved crest, but leaving it plain was bugging me. I think maybe a different geometric design would have been better, but I haven't done much freehand. Baby steps, baby steps!

Some new guys. These are three out of four brothers who were all promo figures. Out of the four, two had really crap stats. One of those was a free giveaway so I have him, but the other awful one was a super-hard-to-find rare promo, so I never bothered to complete the foursome. The other two (the mage and the archer with the brown cloak) are actually so-so-decent figures though.

That mage is by the Perry brothers. It's such a great figure.

The archers are GW Shadow Warriors and the mage is the Elf Mage for Mordheim. Correct?

You aren't Faust. I do like them as well. I do though like proper colors for proper elves. I do tend to like bright colors for High Elves, and muted dark colors for my Dark Elves and woodland colors for the Wood Elves. :-) But there are always exceptions to the rule.

I painted some other shadow warriors early on, as a replacement for an elite archer unit. I didn't post these photos because this was literally the first time I ever used ink washes:











I also have a genuine update as I finished this fellow last night, a conversion of a Phoenix Guard Standard-Bearer. He's more in the "bright" vein, given my particularly garish choice of colours:



I have more elf dorks I could convert, but I think I'm going to switch to something else for a bit. Not sure what's next.

This is really a very cool thread. I like your elves. Might I suggest one little thing? I've noticed you drybrushed e.g. the gloves of the shadow worriors. Nothing against that but I usually then put a very watery glaze carefully on top of that to smooth out the rough finish of a drybrush. That's just my personal taste, mind you and in no way the final word in painting.

Apart from that I really like both you choice subdued of color and the more shiny approach on the hero minature. Keep on posting, it's really nice to see how this project continues.

The blue-garbed shadow warriors are actually an older paintjob. Drybrushing gloves is not something I do anymore, as can be seen in my more recent guys. I've got a pretty good generic middle-brown leather recipe which serves me pretty well now (Snakebite Leather, followed by a heavy wash of Ogryn Flesh, and a light highlighting with a Snakebite Leather + Vomit Brown mix), which you can see on the much more recently-painted red/brown-garbed shadow warriors.

God, I love this figure so much. He took paint very well too... it was the easiest paint job I've had in a while (Certainly easier than trying not to screw up elf women faces).

That's an Old Favorite...it's one of Citadel's most enjoyable minis to paint. You did a SPLENDID job bringing the Old Boy to life...love the striped trousers. VERY WELL DONE!

For a bit I thought maybe I'd try some different ideas (like a copper gutplate with verdigris), but I really liked the "conventional" paintjob with red gutplate and stripey "Obelix" trousers too much. The colour combinations really work well and look great on that particular mini.
