Of course they have bodies. It's just that being Chileno, they're very small.

All joking aside, I'm not sure why this is news. There are quite a number examples of Moai with bodies evident above ground. A thirty second google search for Moai will demonstrate that. There's even an example in the British Museum.

That photo does look a bit dodgy though.

I think the picture is genuine, at least the discover apears to be according a quick search of this new fangled interweb!

I think the pervious above ground part is just more weathered making it look like a bit of editing is going on.

However it does appear that this should be no surprise as other South Sea statues that are similar have bodies - I guess nobody thought to look before!  :D
