WWII paint scheme help (vallejo/panzer aces)
« on: 15 June 2012, 01:50:01 AM »
Hey all- just got everything together and am about to jump back into painting after about a 2 year hiatus.

First up are all WWII Soviet Army Survivors! I am having lots of trouble finding great color choice guides. From what I've read this can be tricky with Vallejo as one "uniform" color more accurately matches another country- etc etc...

If anyone could (for now) give me some suitable colors using the vallejo model color, but also (since I just picked up the set) any vallejo panzer aces alternatives to use for Soviet Army uniform. I would like an emphasis on mix matched, weathered look to the different uniforms so color variation would be good. Please, please, please- any help would be great. I will be sure to post my results as soon as I've labored over them for as long as it takes.

I just have no direction right now, and with this many paints I need to get some help.

A preemptive thanks!

have you tried the flames of war paint sets ? they are sort of aimed at painting vehicles but they are nation specific sets

I use German Camo beige for the bread bags, Russian Green for the helmets and Khaki Grey (actually a brown colour) for the uniforms. For great coats I use USA Tan Earth (which apart from being called "USA" is pinkish in colour when wet but dries looking quite good, weird I know!).

These were the suggestions in "Ostfront" from Flames of War which is an old book now.

I will try to post up some pics so you can see the effect.

The Colour Russian Uniform is a greeny colour that I use as one of the bases for ameoba pattern camo. Actually its similar to the coloured boarder to these forums  lol

I havn't bothered with any colour variation from a lazyness point of view.
