I hope this goes right to video, but then again I'm not going to rent it.
I used to be with it, but then they changed what it was. Now what I'm with isn't it anymore and what is it seems weird and scary.

The equivalent of Red Dawn's North Korea would have been to replace the Soviets by Albanians.

Well, dey' here an sumbody gots to do summat 'bout dat! Wolverines!  :D

I refuse to let reality intrude on a couple of hours worth of destruction and shit getting blown up. Even the token moralising and hand-wringing which seems to permeate every war-film nowadays gives me a chance to put the kettle on without missing anything, or having to pause the DVD.

 ;)

Do the Aussie kids yell, "KANGAROOS" or "WOMBATS" or something cool like that before they waste the bad guys?

What a shit film that was.

lol No doubt about that; however recently life thoroughly kicked me in the nether regions, I am inclined to  enjoy more visceral pleasures.I have absolutely no preconceptions about this film, and as Arlequin mentions,it's a film where one can switch off; and I can tell you I need a bit of that.....Life is too short,so I might as well waste some of it ;)

"dont you cry...you gotta let it turn man...let it turn to something else!"

And

Dying pilot: "shoot straight for once you...army...pukes...(dies)"

Haha my favorite lines from the original...cracks me up...plus when they piss in the radiator of the over heating truck is too funny.

I can only hope this one is as cheesy as the original.

Cheers,

Blue

I'm torn - on the one hand, I'm sick of Hollywood remaking the films of my youth, and on the other hand, it looks like a viscerally satisfying shoot-em-up.

And I agree, making the invaders North Korean to avoid impacting the film's sales in the growing Chinese movie market is kind of wimpy, but inevitable, given that Hollywood is run by the marketing guys. (And the studio that's been sitting on this movie for ~2 years is in such precarious financial shape that they don't dare take any action that might affect any part of their revenue stream. Their problems have also delayed production of the next Bond picture...)

OTOH, this gives me a great opportunity to run a Force on Force counter-insurgency scenario in "the Liberated People's Republic of Colorado", with teenaged American irregulars versus Mexican and Nicuraguan regular forces. Can anyone suggest good armed civilian figures for American counter-revolutionaries?

So the defender of American Freedom is an Australian (Hemsworth)? The trailer looks like a bit of fun actually.

Also the "Yellow Menace" all Australians have been raised with changes on a generational basis.

Post WWII - Japanese

1960s-80s - Vietnamese

90s-onward - Indonesians

Despite the fact we have a large Asian population, there exists a big fear of "Invasion from the North" that permeates our culture.

Even our army trains against "Murosians", which have a distinct South Asia feel about them. I'm Caucasian, but there are Asian members of my family, so I find this all a little weird, but extremely interesting.

Oh and the Tomorrow When the War Began series is terrible, it's more about losing virginity than it is gurillea warfare.

I think I'll be running a "Wolverines!" game this November at our local mini-convention. Instead of busting out for actual figures, I'm going to try my hand at making "standees" for the participants and the buildings. Hey, the characters in the original film were all two-dimensional - why not in the game also! :D

It used to be Musorians that were a threat to the Australian way of life... you saying they got friends now?  ;)

Perhaps you should be worried about "Invasion from the South".  Beware the Antarctic hordes!

Damn those pesky penguins and their nefarious ways.

I watched the original red dawn and thoroughly enjoyed it, this one seems to be the exact same as the origional with the exception of Koreans. The tommorow when the war began books are pretty dodgy but its sequel the Ellie chronicles is rather interesting as it shows what happens after the war.
