RAFM Call of Cthulhu painting WIP
« on: August 17, 2012, 07:05:56 PM »
Hi y´all! I have some RAFM COC minis waiting to get some paint on them for ages now and i thought I would be more motivate to paint them all if I keep some WIP so...

Dark Young of Shub-Niggurath

The base was made from 3mm hardboard and plumber putty. The flock is tea painted dark green and the tall grass is made from thin fishing line . I´m very pleased with the colors chosen, especially the blue pustules. The tongue was sculpted with kneadite and I think it made the monster more sinister and disgusting.

Great looking work. I've looked at that model a few times and not really thought much of it, but you've done a fantastic job with it!

Very moody, great shading. The purple for the tentacles are a great colour choice. Beautiful photography too, with the background. Very fitting.

Marvelous work, though I would love some bigger photos.

Thanks guys! I edited the previous images for bigger ones (I´m trying to keep the post not too heavy).

The Servitor of The Outer Gods is a cool mini that comes with a base full of blasphemous inscriptions that I painted with my eyes closed to avoid the invocation of unknown horrors or losing the little sanity i still have. I hope he will be pleased with his altar. God knows what kind of evil rituals were performed on it...

I used the Vallejo Game Color (drybrushed without washes or highlights just like the Dark Young) except for the brass flute and the inscriptions (Acrylex, cheap acrilic from Brazil but with some great metallic colors) and altar blood ( Tamiya Clear Red X27, the best blood color ever!).

Next: Wilbur Whatley and a Deep One.

Thanks guys, I´m having a ball painting those minis  :)
Here is Nyarlathotep the "Crawling Chaos" in one of his thousand forms "The Bloody Tongue". Nyarlathotep is an evil deity who prefers to spread the madness than death. Painting a miniature in such riches details really almost made loose my mind. The tentacles coming out of his mouth (?) were made with green stuff (kneadite) as well as some veins in his posterior leg. Still not based ´cause the damned customs in Brazil are on strike and my shipment of bases (and more minis  ;D) are locked somewhere waiting for clearence. Painted with Vallejo (drybrushed) and the blood on the tongue (that thing coming out of the trunk) with Tamiya clear red x27.

Cthulhu fhtagn and a good week for everyone !!!  ;)

This week I´ve not painted all the minis I´ve planned to paint. Real life knows how to drag you away from your hobby. I´ve finished the first arctic explorer and I´m very pleased with the looks of it in the snow (baking soda with pva glue). Could he be a team member from Starkweather-Moore expedition? What have he seen on those binoculars that literally got him frozen in his place???

Thanks guys!

@Mathyoo: I´m planning that too. I want to merge a story with The Thing and Cthulhu. I´m thinking of using some playing cards to make a hidden traitor in my warband to recreate the feeling of paranoia we see in that awesome movie (not clear "how to" yet - any idea?).

@Styx: I use the technique I´ve found at Massive Vodoo:

white PVA glue and sprinkled baking soda/sodium bicarbonate on top of it. I recommend to dillute the glue with some water (4 to 1) and let the mini rest for at least 24 hours. Some chaps claims that it can get some yellow tone after a while, although in two years it never happened to me (quality of the stuff?). They keep some sturdiness but you´ll have to treat the mini like an art object more than a toy (I always do that so I can argue with my wife that my hobby is an art form... and then she says I must be on my second childhood - even tough I´ve never leaved de first one!!! lol).

Simple technique for the base: http://massivevoodoo.blogspot.com.br/2010/01/tutorial-snow-on-base.html

Advanced technique for the fig: http://massivevoodoo.blogspot.com.br/2010/05/tutorial-making-snow-advanced-way.html
