How do I get talked into these things....
« on: 10 September 2012, 05:58:56 PM »
I was talking to Paul Ward (Matakishi) at Colours on Sunday and found myself agreeing to run a Strange Aeons game at his birthday bash...

Now, some things come to mind:

1) I've never actually played Strange Aeons, just read the rules...
2) I haven't got any scenery...
3) Paul's Tea Party is in 2 weeks...

Anyway, half an hour later I had spent £40 on Ainsty scenery and enough fencing for a 2 foot square graveyard, today I bought some Woodland Scenics grass mat and I'm off...

I'll post up some progress pictures as I go.

I am planning on running the same Threshold team during each game using the various Grave Robbing/Grave purifying scenarios, but using the campaign system to advance the team between games.

Fortunately I have enough figures painted for the game so it is only scenery I need to worry about.

That´s a great plan for a birthday!!

Ainsty stuff is fantastic for Strange Aeons, I like specially the graveyard scenery. It would be great too see pictures of those games!!

Cheers.

It's going to be great, and spending money at Ainsty is always a good thing :)

Some cool ideas...if you can maybe get some small stuff to give away as prizes at the party. With Halloween just around the corner you should snag some cool party favors cheap.

That's the nice thing about Strange Aeons, you only need a few terrain items for cover and a handful of miniatures and you can get going! Of course, I somehow always end up building more and more terrain and a big lot of figures for every occasion ;)

Go for it, Mike!

The good thing about Strange Aeons is you dont need loads of stuff to get started.
Look forward to seeing how you get on.
Keep us posted with the progress.

Made some progress last night and have the baseboard laid out and started on the walls and Crypt.

This is the layout for the walls and fences - they will be attached to the gameboard but everything else will be freestanding.  I'm intending to use it as a park as well.

Once the walls are finished and attached them I'll layout the paths.

That is a great start!

Is the fencing from Ainsty too?

No, from Products for Wargamers

http://www.productsforwargamers.com/whf_page3.html

They produce a whole range of different fences and walls.

Managed to get some time at Lunchtime to do some more prep work and painting.

I am only doing quick washes over the scenery for now and will "tart" them up at a later date.

Here are a cultist and Threshold Agent outside the Crypt arguing about who gets to enter first...

You are certainly working at a pace on this, Mike.

You will probably have to, though!

I like what I see so far.
Very nice progress, that brickwork is very well done.

It is my standard fast brickwork - undercoated with a Desert Sand spray then gone over with Super Shader Brown, then Super Shader Black over that to define the brick outlines.

I have now finished the walls the same way and stuck them down.  Currently the layout looks like this:

Still need to:

- paint the gate and attach it
- paint some memorials
- finish off grave slabs (these will be used as Grave Markers in the game)
- add the cinder paths to run to the crypt and Obelisk areas

Also need to do the bases on some Threshold Agents and plan the game :-)

I have a practise game this Thursday....
