Space skirmish, (New pics 04/01/13)
« on: 26 October 2012, 02:34:32 PM »
Hello everyone, I thought I'd try and mine the LAF hive mind for some pointers. I'm aiming to start a small space scavengers skirmish project to add to the ever expanding pile of stuff floating around my desk. Basically it's an excuse for me to glue all the watch parts and pieces of circuit boards to something and paint a ton of rust.
At the moment after digging through my lead pile I've come up with some Bob Olley Crusader Marines and some Kryomek Aliens as a starting point and was wondering if anyone could point me in the direction of some interesting manufacturers of 28mm Aliens and other space fairer's.

Eventually when I actually have something to show I'll morph this thread into a project log to chart my progress with some awesome back story and fluff.

Thanks in advance

Scotia Grendel have the Kryomek range now (in case you want to buy more of those) and they also have the Void and Urban War ranges that include a host of troops and the Koralon aliens.

Games Workshop would be another port of call (Tyranids, Kroots, Tau).

Em4 has a few aliens and troopers.

Copplestone castings havs similar.

Pigiron Productions have some scavenger type miniatures.

Ramshackle Games has a host of scavengers, some alien animals and vehicles.

Hasslefree Miniatures have all sorts of adventurers, spacers and aliens.

Heresey Miniatures have a host of sci-fi personnel.

There are loads more but I can't remember them all at this time.

The Cobalt 1 range from Black Hat is ideal for this sort of thing. Lovely figures.

Fantastic cheers! This range had just completely passed me by.

@Inso thanks for the list a couple in there that I'd forgotten about

I also suggest the Daleks given away periodically by Dr Who Adventures Magazine. They often crop up on Ebay too.

Alternative Armies has re-released all the old Retained Knights which I think is the Bob Olley crusader marines you are talking about?

Great models  :)

Cheers for the links everyone some awesome stuff there, I think I'll be giving cobalt a visit when I get paid this month.

I've actually made some progress and managed to dig some mini's out from the Lead Pile that I think fit in with the theme I'm going for.

At the moment it's just base work but let me know what you think.

Here they are all together, 6 Bob Olley Retained Knights, 3 Bob Olley Space Goblins, a Space Crusade Necron, an ancient space Hulk genestealer, a battletech Centurian and some Kryomek Aliens that still need some TLC.

Here's a couple of close ups of the the bases so you can see how they were put together, it's mostly watch parts, base off cuts and electric parts:

Here's all the bases painted up, all they need now is the rims finishing off.

I should hopefully get round to starting the actual mini's at some point this week once I've decided on a colour scheme.

Let me know if you want to see a step by step on the bases and I'll try and put one together.

Thanks again everyone for the positive feedback on the bases, if anyone's interested I've put a quick tutorial up on my blog.
http://ilikepaintinglead.blogspot.co.uk/

I've also finished the first of the Bob Olley not marines:

I think I'm going to go with the same colour scheme on the rest put probably tone down the rust and dirt.

I also got a couple more Bots from ebay, if anyone knows who the manufacturer is let me know as they were just listed as unknown robot mini's:
