The Japanese used a variety of materials in the plasterwork on their castles to help fireproof the structures, particularly on walls and vulnerable or exposed timbers around gateways. Stephen Turnbull mentions this in his features on Sengoku Jidai period sieges. I presume the plaster formed a ablative layer charring and falling away but according to the interweb, the composition acts as a retardant enhanced by the natural additives such as salt, lime, and gypsum.

Much the same can be said for many European plasters. Timber framed structures were on the whole surprisingly resilient, particularly thicker beams which did not burn through but charred on the outside forming an insulating layer protecting the beams from further damage.

Lovely models so far, and like everybody else impressed with the fold down design. If I am not to late check this website for inspiration, the museum is just around the corner from me, and I regularly visit, if you want any more photo's let me know and I will get some on my next visit.

Thank you very much elysium64 the link is a real gem.

I'm sure here at LAF we have one of the best, friendly and cooperative community in the www.

Maybe your link is a bit too late for this batch of buildings, but certainly not for the next, as I'm planning to add a a bakery, inn and maybe a wind or water mill, so any images are more than welcome.

Anyhow, just as promised, here are some pics of the PAINTED buildings.

First, my prototipe (in building techniques, dimensions and painting schemes).

Front door

back

Access to every level

And of course the complete building folds flat

The Church

Interior

Mandatory graveyard

And folded down

The rest is still WIP, but maybe a group shot will give you an idea of how this is all getting together

As always any constructive criticism, tips or ideas to improve the final result are welcome.

Thanks for looking.

BEAUTIFULLY IMAGINATIVE WORK! All your pieces have a certain charm to them. The Church with its attached graveyard is especially cool. VERY WELL DONE!

Awesome work. Now you need an altar and some Pews for the church to complete the inside

Those are fantastic. It is nearly unbelievable that they fold down so flat. I like the Bio-hazard symbol on the sanctuary wall of the church too.

They look great and the ability to flat pack them is very ingenious. 10/10 sir!

Thank you everyone for your kind comments.

I'm still working on the other buildings, but with the hollydays may take a little longer...

Thanks HerbyF but actually that's a WICCAN symbol.

Now, I'll tell you, TBH I choose it exactly because it's so near to a biohazard sign.  8)

The intention is that a gothic church can be used pretty much in any game from middle ages, modern, zombie survival and, if you're into the "there's only war" dark future (I'm not), even 40000 years into the future  ;)

To all forum friends... MERRY XMAS!

Best wishes.

Question for you magokiron.

You have used some kind of tape to re-enforce the corners, is it a special kind of tape, or just a decent masking tape?

Cheers.

Actually I use white glue and "Cartulina Bristol" . That's the spanish name we use in Mexico, don't know how it may be called elsewere, but it's the standard kind of (ussually white) thin cardboard children use for their school projects.

One of the secrets is that every material has a "grain", and you have to check how it folds better, and how it RESIST better to folding.

Now, I've been an ORIGAMI fan for 30+ years, so this kind of "paper fold" issues are like a second nature to me.

Hope that helps.
