Ongoing Project with DreamForge Games Kits
« on: 26 February 2013, 04:01:57 AM »
I've gotten through my first fire team of Eisenkern Stormtroopers and put my thoughts and pictures up on my blog:

First is a review of the stormtrooper box: http://thecolorblindmodelpainter.blogspot.com/2013/02/dreamforge-games-20-x-stormtrooper-box.html
Next is a review of the accessory box: http://thecolorblindmodelpainter.blogspot.com/2013/02/dreamforge-games-stormtrooper-accessory.html
Last is a write up of my first fire team: http://thecolorblindmodelpainter.blogspot.com/2013/02/dreamforge-eisenkern-fire-team-built.html

Here are some pics of the finished fire team.  I just wish I knew how to work my camera better so I could fix the field of focus.

Really like the paint scheme.
Simple yet effective!
Yearly painting challenges only show me how useless I am at painting...

Thanks for the review. Nice effective paint job on them and good conversions, especially liking the shortened rifle you did. Regarding the AT launcher/panzerfaust, back in the WW2 the panzerfaust was a singleshot, disposable AT weapon, maybe that's why the kit doesn't have any reloads for it either.

Yes, only the generic stormtroopers so far.  I imagine if you wanted to do Kriegsmarine or some other elite unit you could get it with different paint jobs or head swaps.  Ski2060 from Dakka did an Ada in an awesome splinter camouflage:

If I can find some good looking jet packs (i.e. ones that don't look like they came off of a space marine) I'd like to do some fallschirmjäger in the future with all SMGs.

Cool! Real Space Marines!  :)

Oh, I thought that was Space MarinesTM now?  ;D

Mine arrived today - beautiful minis.  Fell in love with them the moment I saw the renders, and the final models live up to the hype completely.  I love doing minor conversions to personalise my plastics, so the accessories sprue is like Christmas!

Minor gripe 1 - the Post Office will take a credit or debit card as proof of ID, but not to actually pay the customs charge - I had to pay in cash.  WHYYYYY?

Minor gripe 2 - as everyone mentions, the cargo mules look a right pain to assemble.  Three pieces for each leg?  :'(

Minor gripe 3 - I would have liked some more SF-style weapons.  Not keen on the Panzerfaust at all.

Majorsmith - what is it you don't like?  The accessories pack comes with a number of unhelmeted heads, if it's the German-style helmets.

Thanks for the kudos rwwin. ;)

I'm still working on Ada.  Final highlighting is going down with some  VMC Middlestone over that VMA Dark Yellow, and it's looking good for all my meager talent.

I'm doing a Kriegsmarine unit with the older metal figures from Dreamforge for my SoTR 1949 Droptrooper army. That is, until the Iron Core rules come out. The Ada models I have are going to be used to fill out the squads with AT rifles.
I preferred the look of them over the stormtroopers, just looked a little more like drop troops.

I picked up one of the accessory boxes for the stormtroopers, and will be customizing my guys with all the awesome gribblies that come in that box.

I'm hoping that at some point in the future a Kriegsmarine box, or at least conversion box, will come out for them from DFG.

momotaro, im just not struck by them, maybe a lack of originality, they look a bit weeny as well, i must admit i like the more heroic sized figures, and wargames factory have pretty much done a set which look like nazis in space.

I've been out of historical WWII modeling for over a decade.  I can't remember what was distinctive about the Kriegsmarine that you'd need a conversion set?

I can dig that.  I know when I saw the kickstarter, my first reaction was "Ugh, not more space nazis!"  From an aesthetic point of view, they are far from original, but damn they are well made.  As far as heroic proportions go, there's a fine balance between reality and visual appeal and I think these models are closer to the sweet spot than what GW is producing nowadays.
