My Federation for A Call To Arms: Star Fleet
« on: April 29, 2013, 10:59:33 AM »
As Raif has done such sterling work on his Klingons in another thread, I thought I should pull my finger out and get building my Federation fleet to balance things up.

As you can see from the image below, I have quite a few to be getting on with :

First finished model is a Burke-class Frigate - the USS Jellico.  The decals nearly killed me...

Great job, I was showing a friend the fleet boxed sets with the rules in them.

After a brief diversion to paint a Dreadball team, I'm back painting starships.  Here's a Federation-class Dreadnought, the USS Directorate...

I've always wanted to do some kind of starship game.  Not a fan of Star Trek, but you've done some great work there.

I would like to hear more about the rules. A buddy is looking at the Romulans and I am looking at the Klingons.

This is a fairly nice synopsis - I've still getting toys painted ready to start playing so I've not yet rolled a phaser dice in anger so far  lol

There's a cool Facebook group for this game started by the author of the above text  - worth a looksee for sure if nothing else than to see lots of nice spaceships.

You should not be ashamed in not having fired!

But we all know the Federation is built peace and harmony; the fleet should NEVER be used for anything other than exploration and making new friends!  lol

q' Pla!

I have been reading and the Call to Arms seems to be a nice choice, not as complex as Star Fleet Battles...which had to do allocations and a ton of management to even do a turn. Fun, but also boring as hell at points. The CTA looks prospective. I keep sweeping around the boards and Ebay for a good deal.

What about star trek tactics (heroclix) ?  Probably simple and cheap.

I played heroclix marvel in the past, I liked the system a lot (perhaps also because we never searched for powerfull combos).

It is somewhat popular, the models look ok for Clix stuff and from what I understand the game is rather simplistic like other Clix games with not much depth.

The Heroclix version was temporarily popular with the locak Clix fanboys, but only a short time. Several of us bought into it, but never appreciated same. I figured I'd just repurpose figs for Full Thrust, for which I've plenty o' MicroMachines ST, but the new X-Wing based version may have more staying power. The Heroclix lacked 'swoosh', but there's an abundance of same in X-Wing.

Won't have the Star Wars fanboys, of which I do count myself in, but may draw the ST fanboys; oh, heck, I'm one of those as well.  lol
