PF's Bat-ball figures
« on: July 11, 2013, 04:21:24 PM »
Hi Guys these are some of PF's batt-ball sculpts, sci-fi base ball types

Basically I am thinking of how to put them into production and i am trying to gauge the interest in them

What do you think would you buy them

Another thing I thought about was doing them as a group build i.e. kickstarter with out the kickstarter in a similar vein to eureka's 100 club

Please let me know what you think

I would be very stronly inclined to buy a Batt-Man just 'cuz, assuming he's ca. 28mm. Maybe also an Aristocrat to use for a generic scifi civilian. The others... Well just no, so I wouldn't invest in a whole team for example.

While I really like the sculpts...I see zero appeal in a baseball based tabletop game.  Baseball is boring to watch even on the television...likely worse on a table top.  You'd have to introduce some real Mutant League Baseball rules, with combat on the pitch etc.  Perhaps a really clever rule set could make it worthwhile...but it doesn't have the constant involvement of two teams like football, or (cough) American football.

It'd be easy enough to create a field...perhaps with a couple dozen "swing" zones...hmmm.  I'd like to see what you come up with.

Growing up with the Los Angeles Dodgers of the 1950s and 1960s and the Saint Louis Cardinals now I enjoy the thinking that goes on in the game a lot.  Most non-fans don't have the understanding/background to properly enjoy the game.  That is common to most sports.

But it is hardly a war gamer game TBH.  Most of us want the instant conflict.  NFL Football is for the HTH contact sort,  Fútbol is the tactical equivalent of a night patrol in WW1 mixed with an air strike (only slightly less schizophrenic,) and Baseball is for the snipers out there (if you aren't ready for the action before it starts you miss it and it's over quickly.)

That said, I don't think it would be attractive as a table top game to most on this forum.  Board gamers maybe, sports gamers maybe, change the game to a fantasy/SF Action oriented setting and maybe then...

Much as I love the game in real life, on the table top it would have to stop being "Baseball" (especially the perverted AL version) to attract most miniatures gamers.

Just IMO of course, YMMV.

Gracias,
