European mercenaries
« on: 06 August 2013, 01:52:25 AM »
Me and a couple of friends have recently began delving into medieval miniatures. We are not particularly concerned with historical authenticity. We have tried using a slightly modified version of GWs Lord of the Rings system (not War of the Ring) for battles which works really great!

These are the finished models from my force of mercenaries, I have ~70 unfinished.

Nice start  :)

LotR can be quite brutal and, for bigger late medieval games, War of the Ring works quite well.

A good start, but be careful as the Perry miniatures can be addictive  lol

LOTR is a good choice for rules too, perhaps my fravorite

LotR is the best rule system I have tried. It is very simple, easily modifiable (I have played it för fantasy, medieval, pirate, and zombie apocalypse type games) and in my opinion works great for large scale games. The only downside is the rather tedious morale system, but a few small changes fixes that right up. Rather than testing for each individual model, we group together models of the same courage who are in roughly the same place and test for all of them with a single roll (after stand fast rolls, of course).

Does anybody know of a good site for printable banners? Any historical, non-historical, fantasy or otherwise will do.

click on Download on the bar on the right hand side and then to the Medieval and Renaissance at the bar at the top- there are some great Burgundian banners:

hope that helps?
