To be honest, mate, I didnt see this as a bash.
I just thought it was funny seeing everyone else's take on these mishaps.
 lol

Most of the members, yes. a few, who shall remain unnamed, always seem to turn this into a circus (bad sense of the word.)

I shall stand down.   :-X

But we need GW to survive... they make great hills and gaming mats.
Far less active than I used to...

GW often get inspiration from other models and concepts and this looks like it has been inspired by the heavy suits in sediton wars. Unfortunately the GW cooperation does not have as good sculptors as they once did.

<snip>

Look everyone here has at least one GW fig. <snip>

In fact even the concept behind them is a bit shite mate. They burrow into titans like some sort of parasite. Imperial tapeworms forward for the emperor! Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaarrrr!

Well, I guess if you include Lizardmen (for my VSF on Venus) I guess I can't argue that first part.

I never bothered reading the trip... background... but, really?

[Don't say it, Glenn...]

Imperial tapeworms - now that is funny.   lol

Glenn

My first thought was "who let Michael Bay into the sculpting studio..."

GW free for a while now, and still looks like a fantastic choice.  I will say though, they know their demographic and they'll likely sell plenty, especially with "these are better than anything in your army...until next month" rules they'll receive.

The prices are absurd to the point of laughter.  lol

I was thinking more like Fisher Price designers...

Also have to agree that they look like miners. I think that the imperial fist colour scheme is probably the worst you cause to showcase space marines though. Dirtying them up a bit would greatly improve the look of them. I don't think they are terrible, but also not great. And as others have said, the whole space marine thing is based on things not changing since the emperor was... Young? In a sense then you shouldn't be able to bring out new things.

May I suggest em4miniatures' space rangers?

Similar, but five minis for £2.55. Which will likely be 10-12 times cheaper than the GW crap.

You know, I bought a box of those back when they came in boxes of 50 for... not a whole lot of money. I think I paid 25 FIM for the box which is roughly 4 euros. So it's 25 quid for 50 now, inflation really is running rampant...

I recently painted them too:

http://www.smallcuts.net/photo/photo_bulkview.jsp?ptitle=Photo+Album+Game%2FSciFi%2FComrades

Quite frankly, they are not that hot figures. Even if you ignore the stiff monoposes and exteremely limited conversion options, the quality leaves a lot to be desired. When you really get to working with these, you'll notice the detail is very coarse and not crisp at all. There are basically no sharp edges anywhere on the models -- all the forms just sort of flow into each other. The plastic is softish, somewhere between soft "army men" and hard model kit polystyrene. This makes cleaning the few small details like gun barrels a bit iffy.

Personally, I fail to see the appeal of cheap if it comes at the cost of quality. I don't like to overpay any more than the next guy, but neither do I buy stuff just because it's cheap.

Yes, the space rangers are cheap and serviceable but anyone thinking they are qualitywise a direct replacement for e.g. GW's Space Marines should take the rose-tints off, IMHO.

P.S. And no, I don't really think em4 is overcharging.

Your pic link didn't work for me but regardless I agree. We passed over them back in the 25 FIM days just because they weren't really very fetching even by the time's standards.

As to the actual GW exosuits, I actually think the arms might be serviceable on another model. Say a McVey Firebrand exosuit. Not likely to be able to get just those at a reasonable price so it'll be a pass for these too.

I do wonder in all seriousness, how long it is before we actually get:

" My first Space Marine "

Who wondered it sir?  ::) :p prehaps the long rumoured hasbro take over is being eased in. ;)

So there I was, happily thinking I'd never have a use for those figures, and someone goes and mentions they could be used for asteroid miners.

Someone else then reminds me of the Studio McVey exosuits, and all of a sudden I'm thinking about buying and painting up some asteroid miners for my SF stuff.

Curse you, LAF, you and your never ending inspiration  ;D
