Very nice to see in a game.    :D

And, yes, I'm taking credit - deserved or not! - for 'cut the figures from bases and smash them with a hammer' dead since I've been promoting that here on LAF the last year or three, though mostly for animals, works for people, too, especially when the figure supply is excess of need.  :o

Like the dude with the wheelbarrow but missed seeing more of your civilians roaming about.  Maybe there and just camera shy. (oh, duh, just looked again and spied the 'ladies' on the end of the pier.  Captives?)

Nice piece of scatter terrain on the one pier - you need more though.  Those pirates need the cover to approach those gun positions methinks.

So, I'm guessing you've judged the effort worth it.  And now you have a highly portable, relatively, game to take to shows.  Matters as our hair transits into other colors through the forces of nature.

And you're terrain - along with the 'ancient' Gary Chalk pirate town - have inspired me to do some serious rework on my pirate town and I've ordered in a bunch of additional 3D buildings in 15 mm.  I'll be going a bit more vertical with my scenery than you though.

Please keep on sharing photos of your games.  They are fun - and inspiring.

PS: I caved and ordered four 3D printed ships, from a different and more affordable source.  And included the Galleon which will be a treasure ship and likely the focus of a few games.

Those in game shots look ace! The lovely blue sea really sets everything off.

The wavering markers are the most colourful 'dead' markers I think I have seen. But the production method
"hitting them with a hammer under some tissue paper "

Made me wince for the poor little metal chaps - effective as it has been ;)

Those game photos look incredible. I did have to laugh at the hitting figs with a hammer (suitably protected by tissue paper)...  :D

I understand why, but it just sounds humorous as if you're sparing watchers from the violence...  lol

Great pics all around.

For Pikeman Lament are you still using 12 figure units, so 3 to 4 bases is a unit?  Just curious.

Thanks

Thank guys :)

Yes, 12 figure and 6 figure units.
12 figure units have three bases with three figures, one base with two, and one base with one, allowing for removal of figures.
6 figure units have one base with three figures, one base with two, and one base with one.
The guns have six crew, although I've modelled them with just three figures, so we're using a micro dice to mark how many figures are left as the crews start to take casualties.

The pirates are currently configured as:

Crew: 12 figure Shot units
Landing party: 6 figure Forlorn Hope
Boarding party: 6 figure Aggressive (non-shooty) Forlorn Hope

There's probably a case for making some of the pirates Commanded Shot too - much more fragile, but faster scampering  :)

Questions for Captain Blood relating to the Printable Scenery ships and their assembly.  As you say, fiddly and not even the shadow of instructions that I can find (though a video on line about rigging that seems a bit over much but we'll see).

I now have four of the Printable Scenery ships - bought from a vendor, Tabletop Terrain: galleon, frigate, sloop, and brig.  That galleon had so many parts it gave me a fright until I realized that 24 of the pieces are for guns pointing out of open ports and another 24 are for modeling those same gun ports as closed (whew!).  On the up side, the models are really very cleanly printed with minimal need for clean up prior to assembly.

So, despite lack of directions, any tips and tricks you discovered in the process of assembly, especially the masts and spars and the associated parts (and size of dowel you used if you recall?)?  And just general pointers you feel would be helpful in the process?

Thanks for any assistance you can render from afar.  Might be useful to others as well.  They are some Very Nice models.

PS: also ordered two more wrecks that come in 29 and 38 pieces each!  Yikes.  On their way to me as I type.  Already had the same wreck as seen on page 7 of this thread, in only two pieces.

Hold the presses, just found this image:

On the actual Printable Scenery site along with photo parts list - except for the mast and spar bits, should help some.  Questions still stand, however.

I feel your pain.
Nice models (assuming you can get them printed to a high standard) - but a shocking absence of instructions, and plethora of teeny tiny components (some of which were missing on my first couple of ships, because the print company had missed them / dropped them on the floor during packing / who knows). Not a great experience.

You just have to work off the (not very good and not very comprehensive) photos of the completed models on the Printable Scenery website, and try to figure out for yourself what goes where. It ain't easy.

The rigging demo video is quite useful though. Per their recommendation, I used elastic for some of it, and just black thread for other parts.

I didn't use dowel for the masts. My models all came with printed masts (eventually in some cases, as they also got missed off by the printer too in a couple of cases ::)).
The 3D printing on the masts was very poor though - notchy and bobbly.
In the end, I bought a pack of Evergreen Scale Models styrene rod (2.5mm) which works perfectly. Although you do have to drill the holes to a slightly larger size on the shackles that run up and down the masts...

Yes, the two part cannons present as a terrifying number of components.
I haven't used them because the two halves just don't align properly. This might work in 28mm where you can see enough to clean up the bad join between the two halves, but in 15mm, and in the intractable and unforgiving hard 3D print medium, this is just too difficult. So I've replaced all the ships' guns with Peter Pig 15mm 'light' pirate guns...

As it happens, I've just received a print of the Brig...
As you can see, it's about the same length as the sloop but rather wider in the beam, and with a terrifying number of bits and pieces for the masts and rigging fittings. So God knows how complicated the bigger ships must look :o

Anyway...

In other news, I realised that what I was missing in my teeny tiny pirate crews was a gang of angry Cornishmen, so I've rectified that...

In the test games I've played so far, some landing party or other has always managed to get forced back into the briny lol - So I have now brutally chopped some tiny unfortunates in half, and created a 'Help, we're in the drink!' marker.

And finally, three more individual teeny tiny characters... Just to show the eclectic nature of this little collection, that's an AWI civilian carrying a wheatsheaf, an ECW gunner opening a box (now serving as a pirate with a treasure chest), and a Peninsular War Spanish gentleman. The great thing in this scale, is that at more than six inches away, nobody is going to be able to tell  >:D ;) lol

Loving the in the water figures!

And great work through the Pendraken catalogue to find all sorts of different civilian figures to use.

Which made me remember this one in the Indian mutiny range and one from the Sudan range - who might give some interesting figures?

In deed a search for civilians in the web store works very nicely

Agreed they are fantastic :-*
but I think that you need also need a not-Captain of the Black Pearl asking "and where is all the rum?!"

I, too, like the men in the water - a worthy 'sacrifice'.  And maybe a use for the other halves somewhere?  Think Wizard of Oz perhaps?  In 15 mm we have the pack from Peter Pig of men in water in the Pirate range but some standing folk in shallow water sounds fun and I certainly have a surplus of figures!  :D    The lower halves in some barrels with legs up - maybe that can be the captain no longer needing to ask about rum as he is, literally, 'drowning' in the libation.

Thanks for the reply and the bit about plastic rod gives me an idea or two, I shall be exploring the local hobby shops for just such items and maybe some brass or other metal rod or tube, be a lot stronger than wood doweling I think.

Those linked additional civilians look useful - but what do you do with all the excess duplicate poses?!  Maybe they come in smaller packs or perhaps you can work something out with Leon.  Wondering if he released some suitable natives yet if you decide to go down that path.

The brig, my version, is not nearly so daunting as the larger vessels.  When I get some time I'll try and photo all the parts to show what comes with each ship.  A couple of one piece hulls, the frigate I think is three pieces and that galleon is about six pieces for the hull.  Probably only use one of the five lanterns, maybe three, to minimize the fantasy look (flag ships apparently had three but most galleons just one on the stern).  Use the spares as part of my fort likely.

Edit: Those photos now up here - https://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=150048.msg1927471#msg1927471
